Restaurants
Some of my family like to eat out in restaurants where there is a choice of food that they recognise. Now, there's nothing wrong with Turkish food but we grew up in an era where minced or, as the Brits call it, ground meat was something you had when the budget was tight and a little meat had to stretch a long way. "Proper" meat was roasted, boiled or fried.
In my experience, Planet Yucca in Kusadasi is the best option for choice and quality but you would need a mortgage to eat there and, anyway, it's too far away. The only place I have had roast lamb is Cineralti in Davutlar (opposite the Degirmen) but I'm not sure whether Cineralti is still open and the last time I was there I thought it had disimproved. Degirmen has good food but they give very small helpings and it isn't cheap.
I would welcome recommendations for decent places to eat in the Davutlar/Guzelcamli area, please.

Re: Restaurants
Hi Maria, I dont often venture down that way, but last year for ALisons sons birthday we went to a favourite restaurant of her mums down that way. it was amazing. steak cooked to perfection..
I will send her a link to here in a pm and she can tell you which one it was..
now if you fancy going further afield into kusadasi centrum, the new Dejazar Wine Bar opening in mid may, facing the marina will have amazing food and service,
and i do promise you wont need a mortgage..

Re: Restaurants
Thanks, Mavi. I tend to avoid Kus centre like the plague but it is lovely down by the seafront. I'm not nearly sophisticated enough for frequenting wine bars, but I might pay a visit just to have a nose around. I had a look at your website (saw the link on Facebook) and have told the younger family members that they can get their nails done while the dads bring the kids to the play area. Think they will be paying you a visit in July.

Re: Restaurants
Outside of Davutlar on the road to Kus by the Turk Telecom building is a roundabout, at which you turn right up the hill to Sogucak. Twenty metres on your right is Gozde Pansyon. Jurgen, the german owner and his wife Songul are marvellous hosts. The meat, especially the steaks and wild boar, are totally delicious, and I really recommend you try it.

Re: Restaurants
Maria, Mavi is talking about Ergun's (as we call it). The restaurant's name begins with a Z, it's the first restaurant on your left as you walk up to the Post Office. It's a block before you come to the Agora.
Cinaralti is still open as far as I know but I've only ate in their once but didnt like it. The restaurant right down at the harbour (was called the Balikci last year) isn't bad. Their menu is quite varied and they do lovely pizzas.

Re: Restaurants
This is great info. 3 new places on my list (4 including the wine bar, Mavi). I'm going to try them all in June. JandJ I know the Sogucak roundabout. I love a nice, juicy steak but I might give the wild boar a miss. Alison, I take it Balikci is mainly a fish restaurant? Hope so, cos much as I love pizzza's I'm afraid they are a big no-no for me.
Thurstan, I know I'm not very observant, but I haven't seen any restaurants in the centre of Davutlar. Have you?
Thank you all very much.

No I havnt - but I drive into the centre and turn right. Perhaps there is more to it (note to self: be more adventurous and explore).
Certainly the April issue of the Ege Eye reported that there is a new covered bazaar and a new market being developed there. Completion date is June
Oh, and they also say that there are plans to pedestrianise the main road in Guzelcamli and employ street entertainers and animators. So you might be in for a pleasant surprise in June

Re: Restaurants
Wow, Thurstan, street enertainers? Sounds good. If Guzelcamli has to change (and I suppose nowhere stands still) I hope they make it family oriented and street entertainers are a step in the right direction. They already had the main street blocked off last time I was there, but that was for the roadworks. I'm really looking forward to seeing it pedestrianised. Can't wait.
I haven't done much exploring in Davutlar, either. They have a very good bakery on the left hand side as you drive toward Guzelcamli. Before my flour allergy I always tried to buy my bread and treats there.

No, Maria, we call it "minced meat", or "mince" too!! I think it is the Americans who call it "ground" meat.
Maria, you should try the wild boar. It is so delicious - a bit like beef - wild boar stew, or barbecued - out of this world.
