Finding retailers/suppliers

Next time we go to Turkey, I plan to spend some time sourcing and pricing materials, appliances and furniture etc;

We would therefore be very flexible about location for our stay. It could be in the North (where we have never visited before) or areas more familiar to us like Kalkan, Bodrum and Marmaris: but wherever, being a keen DIYer it would have to be in travelling distance of large Builders Merchants. If it wasn't, it would be difficult for me to work out any overall cost of buying and renovating.

Where are the best places/companies from which to source plumbing supplies? This would be a big consideration! How much does a bathroom suite cost? I like the jet-spray toilet but where are they to be found for sale?

Air conditioning units?

Household appliances?

Where will we get curtains? (Last time we went, the curtains and nets were on dual poles that glided open so easily)!

Other furnishings including TV, Hi-Fi and Computers.... are there any large retail areas where all these things can be found?

I am even considering a short trip over, hiring a car (never done that before) and checking out as much of this as I can but, which area is best to go to.

I know there are DIY topics, but they don't seem to deal with my questions? Any help will be much appreciated.

I hesitate to give you this link because at the moment it is not working. But, if you make a note of it and come back to it, perhaps it will give you the info you need. The pictures give an idea of the range, but that seems to be the best it can do.

By the jet spray toilet do you mena the one that is a toilet and bidet combined, if you are then they are available in most places.

Air Con units google arcelik and go to the english version you will be able to get a cost for the different sizes from there. You can also coat out appliances as well.

Most curtain shops will measure, make and fit for you including putting up the rails for you.

We are in Yalikavak (just outside Bodrum) and we often use the big stores on the main road running from Bodrum to Yalikavak. There is a wide variety of stores from stone merchants to kitchen fitting companies, plumbers merchants and furniture retailers, all running along the edge of the road for about 2 miles. Its a busy road and sometimes difficult to stop the car, so we once walked most of it so we didn't miss anything!

Forgot to say Stu, there is also a very good general builders merchant on the Yalikavak to Torba road, opposite the turning to Gundogan. Its used by local people and is often a lot cheaper than the big chain-stores. Sorry, can't remember the name but its easy to find. I loose my husband in there for hours since it sells hundreds of individual things like the old ironmongers in GB used to - if you're looking for the odd ballcock its the place to go!!!

alanya has loads of wholesale merchants for everything...as well as a new diy store and a large Metro wholesale store..and some really good dive locations
the same can be said of Antalya..on an even larger scale,plus year round international airport.
