Any plumbers on here?

Sorry this isn't really DIY but wasn't sure where else to put it.

I recently put blue blocks in my upstairs toilet cisterns, a couple days later blue water came through the hot water (on a mixer tap) in the downstairs kitchen. I hot a plumber in who pretty much chuckled at my predicament and said it was to do with the gŁneşli energi system, fiddled with it and said all would be fine. Which it has been, although Ithought tthere was a blueish tinge to water on occasion but put it down to paranoia.

Yesterday, the belediye plumbers were in to our neighbours (not attached) flushing their drains as they were blocked.. Raw sewage smelling water pooling round upright pipes in their garden. As the belediye cleared pipes, a geyser of raw sewage pumped up downstairs toilet floor drain and toilet bowl same happened to neighbours. The workers explained pipes were narrow n blocked and are fixing it.

Immediately after, I ran kitchen taps... Blue water again. IIt's fine now but I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light. I never felt the original explanation was correct!

Sorry for long post!!

Sounds like the lack of pressure on the hot is allowing cold water to get through. As for how the blue gets though from the toilet? Stick a non-return valve to the toilet feed, there's no way that water should be coming back out of the cistern.

Re: Any plumbers on here?

The only thing I can come up with, is imagine the cold water in your house being on one long pipe with taps coming off it for water taps and toilets
Now when you put the blue blocks in the toilet, when that next filled up, maybe you had a bit of a backwash and some of the blue water entered the main pipe and made it's way to the nearest tap
Thinking about it, there can't be many more explanations , the blue water has got to be from the blue blocks one way round or another

Re: Any plumbers on here?

Hi Niamh.
In my (humble) opinion the water cannot get from your toilet cistern to your water supply, without first being flushed through your loo, I would hazard a guess//////stop press. sorry but my wife just popped in the room and asked me what I was doing, I explained your predicament, and she simply said that sounds like what happened to our friends when hot water came up through their loo, so I suggest that you totally ignore my effort and wait for someone who actually knows, but if its any comfort its sounds like its not such a strange occurrence as it first seemed.
good luck.

Re: Any plumbers on here?

A non-return valve will stop the blue, easy to fit & cheap. Quite possibly your mixer tap is not doing its job either. Good mixer taps only let hot through the hot, never the cold.

If a plumber leans hot over cold pipes you can get hot water coming through the cold for a bit. I have seen in Turkey where all the pipes a bunched up, they are only plastic & soon heat up.

Wow thanks for all your speedy replies! I'm going to sound like a bit of a girl now, but are the one way valves easy to find and install for someone who has no plumbing knowledge? I think a Google search and some YouTube tutorials are in order!!

Re: Any plumbers on here?

the blue stuff shouldnt be able to get into the domestic water system in a properly piped home, the incoming water is/should be mains pressure with an automatic closing valve when the cistern is full, I would be more concerned as to what ever else could find its way into the domestic water system

Re: Any plumbers on here?

Oh god. This sounds expensive! I know I'm asking for guesswork but do you think it could just be a faulty valve?
