23rd April - National Holiday
Don't forget that it's National Sovereignty Day in Turkey on Wednesday 23rd April and all banks, post offices and government buildings will be closed.

Re: 23rd April - National Holiday
good reminder KKOB..thanks for that
Tomorrow is a special day that was set aside by Atatürk ..a gift to children who he said were the future of the nation.
It was also on April 23, 1920, that the Grand National Assembly met in Ankara and the foundations were put in place for a new secular republic.
So 23rd of April is doubly important in Turkey.
Children will have a holiday and there will be parades and special events organised by and for them.

Re: 23rd April - National Holiday
In Antalya the Childrens Day Celebrations have been going strong, since last week. My son did his 'folklor' dance this morning-proud mummy moment! There are children from all around the world here at the moment, enjoying the Turkish hospitality. There is also a Tarkan concert at the cam piramit tomorrow.

Hi,
On the 23rd it's also St Georges Day here in the UK. Can't say I've seen many events planned although Asda is selling greetings cards.

Hi rosehill Girl..i think that really highlights the difference between love of country here..and lack of it there. There wont be any UK kids waving St George's flags around

Wow St Georges Day. Last time I celebrated that was 13 years ago - we had a Street Party where we lived at the time (kids had great fun). Certainly doesnt feel like 13 years has passed!

Quite right. Some P.C. idiot from the local council would probably turn up and tell the kids to stop being racist!
Pride in and love of country is very important.
No prizes for guessing why I don't live in the U.K. any more!!

That would be funny if it wasn't true, I think that the english,in general, are scared to stand up and say that they are proud to be english. Our national identity is being eroded away and people can't say what they really think for fear of the PC police eg a lot of Christmas cards now say Seasons Greetings for fear of upsetting non Christians!

I'm not scared to say I'm English, I'm embarrassed now that the Lunatics have taken over the Asylum.

Re: 23rd April - National Holiday
Was in Antalya last Thursday on return from Cappadocia and saw the Children from all over the globe in National costume parading and the concert at 4pm. Very nice.
Happy St Georges day everyone. Everyone celebrates their days and you can usually get a drink late ticket in the UK for all Nationalities except this one.
