Re: Damp proofing
Thanks Cheeky Chops but I wasn't referring to that link. I was asking about the solar dehumidifier mentioned at the left of this site.

Re: Damp proofing
I 'Googled' it. Now I am interested to know who has had experience of it.

Re: Damp proofing
Basically it doesn't matter where you are on this site, if you click on the SolarVenti ad it will take you straight back to whatever thread you were on before you clicked on the SolarVenti ad. So I Googled SolarVenti and have had emails from the lady. I just wondered if anyone had had personal experience of this item and if they were pleased with it.

Damp rises by capillary action to 120cm max from the ground level i believe.
This will happen if theres no damp proof membrane.
However as i'm sure you know, poor ventilation in unused properties can cause the salts used in the mortar or some mildew to appear on the walls too.
Mildew will also appear on walls suffering from some water source/leak.

Hi Pete
My mum installed her damp proof system 2 years ago now and her house is fine. There's not a mark on the outside of her house whereas the others in the complex have had to have that awful cladding done a metre up the wall (prior to her installing the system the paint on the exterior would be cracked and falling off). Inside she is still getting a little salt coming through in one or two small patches but nothing major considering the house has been closed up since last September.

I would be happy with 2 years and this is what I meant that most people using a system would have had it installed within only the last few years. Not many people would be able to say they had it done say 5-10 years ago because there just wasn't anything available at that time.
Also a point to note is that not all houses are damp, for example Dalyan has a very high water table and a lot of people suffer from damp because the foundations are so wet and suck up so much. Yet our 12 year old house there doesn't have a single bit of damp inside and outside its only in a couple of spots around the terrace, I don't know why we have no problems, maybe drainage, maybe luck...I'm just happy with it.
