ecommerce from turkey to europe/uk

salaam all.

i am considering moving to turkey but i need to iron out some concerns regarding setting up and running a business from turkey.

the most important concern first is what is the shipping cost and time to sending in the uk.

500 grams, 20x30x5cm priority service with the national ptt

also how long does it take.

thats my first question, i would have other questions about importing from china to turkey and if any restrictions or high taxes etc.

Would it be easier to drop-ship in the Uk?

Re: ecommerce from turkey to europe/uk

Importing from China is subject to customs duty, and tax is also payable on the cost of shipping to Turkey. All money up front.

Re: ecommerce from turkey to europe/uk

New legislation here in Turkey has created a situation whereby any foreign exchange landing in your Turkish bank account regardless of the amount will be charged at $15. Small amounts will be wiped out by this system, if you build this $15 into the price it will then be uncompetative.

Re: ecommerce from turkey to europe/uk

thank you all for replying so promptly. I wasn't anticipating such a swift reply, I've also emailed the turkish embassy here in the uk.

well that is one option [email protected] drop shipping, sort of, it is my own business, still running for a number of years and doing well, I could leave the warehouse here and employ a manager to run the operation from here, that would be easiest logistically but would need more time in terms of training and me being comfortable with someone taking the reigns. I like having a stronger control and over sight, hence the moving of the entire operation to turkey. so I'm hoping to get some shipping information from ptt.

in terms of the customs duty and tax, that is the same case here in the uk, have to pay tax on the product + shipping cost, so thats all the same here. the question is, how high is the duty and vat on foreign imports.

with regards to the foreign exchange, I would be able to keep the currency in gbp release it to my uk account and then transfer as a lump sum to turkish lira. i dont think that would be too much of a headache. also the payment system here releases the payments daily, i could also change to weekly so its not a per transaction method. therefore the 15 usd would be quite bearable, i currently do this with my us dollars too. its about 8 dollars charge for that.

If that's your situation; stick with it. I would avoid involving anything Turkish in your business plans.

Re: ecommerce from turkey to europe/uk

i have read a few horror stories about business in turkey, however i would be in full control of the operation, or are there elements even out of your control eg government taxation and local delivery systems which are unrealiable? i would hope that business would be easy in turkey as it would really help the economic growth which is partially why i want to move to turkey, to help in my way with its economic growth.

Not wishing to rain on your parade: Why involve an extra layer of import duty. Have you looked at getting a work visa?
