Bottle Gas v Electricity

When we get our little apartment would you suggest getting an
Electric cooker or a Gas one. There is space for a full size cooker
not just a bench top. The reason I ask is do you get power cuts and
which would work out more economical ?

Thanks Higgy

We bought a gas hob as we thought when there are power cuts( been several when we have been out there) you can still make a drink or cook something. We will not bother with an oven for now. Do not know the running cost as we have not actually stayed in our house as yet.

I to would like more info on this. I have a worktop 4 ring gas cooker in the apartment which I bought from new. But before I bought I looked into which gas company to use and do they deliver or not. In Alanya their are two gas companies and they go around the streets, one plays a beautiful tune sung by a female. So it was the obviuos choice and they gave me a number to call if I wanted a cylinder delivering.

The other option is to buy a combination cooker which usually is gas but has one electric hob. Handy if you run out of gas. The opposite would be true if you had a power cut.

Cost wise it is something I have not looked at and would like to know which is the better. I have been left a full size gas cooker in the villa but as yet have not had a look at it to see if it works. But here because of location (Kargicak) I am unsure whether to fit a gas or electric cooker.

So what is the priority cost or delivery of gas?

We just bought a gas bottle thing down at a local shop. When that runs out, just take it back to shop and get another. We took out a lean mean grilling machine to cook with and we will probably buy a cheap microwave too. The hob with elect and gas rings is a good idea.

We've got a fan assisted oven with a built in grill and a hob with 1 electric and 3 gas rings. The gas bottle (blue) lasts for about 3 months of daily use.

Obviously if there's a powercut you're b*ggred if you want to use the oven, but with the gas rings, you can at least make a cuppa !

Couldn't tell you about the running costs of the oven as I've never bothered to work it out.

Most of the gas companies collect and deliver. In Fethiye and the surrounding area they'll usually deliver a fresh bottle within a couple of hours. We always keep at least one spare fresh bottle in case of public holidays and emergencies.

That has answered what I wanted to know, it will be a dual

Thanks for your replies Higgy
