Electricity Charges
Hi Everyone.
I have lived in Turkey now for a few years and was wondering how the cost of electricity is worked out?
At present we are renting a new apartment and as far as I know the owner has not received the title deeds as of yet?
However, we have not received an electricity or wate bill yet and have been in this property for 4 months. I work for a builder and have worked for previous builders before this and my first employer used to always pay the bills until the owner took possesion of the Tapu?
Any information would be great.

Re: Electricity Charges
Hi Debbie,
The following is information from last year so I dont know if there has been an increase but it will give you a rough idea:
Electricity prices are at a fixed price of 0.13YTL per KW/H on ordinary meters.
On digital meters there are 3 rates according to time.
Electricity 7am - 5pm kw/h 0.14YTL
Electricity 5pm - 10pm kw/h 0.22YTL
Electricity 10pm - 7am kw/h 0.08YTL
Exclusive of V.A.T (or Turkish KDV)
Also I bought a resale villa in July 2005 and paid approx 30 lira up until Sept. I didnt get another bill until July 2006 as they didnt come out and read the meter all winter. The bill was approx 400 lira which I didnt think was too bad as I had electric fires on all last winter.
If you take the number from the electricity box for your apartment and take it to the Electricity office, they will be able to tell you how much is owing.

Re: Electricity Charges
Thanks a lot Mrs Who.
I will try and find out how much is owed. It really shouldnt be too much as we havent used our electricity that much as we are both out during the day and at night really just TV thats on and maybe air conditioning for a little while but not every night!

Re: Electricity Charges
You need to give the electricity company all 3 meter readings ( incase the meter hasn't been read by them ), the account number ( which will be marked on the meter or it's cover ) and it's also a good idea to take either your Tapu or passport as proof of ownership / ID.

Re: Electricity Charges
Unless you use air conditioning all night there does seem to be much of an incentive to change from the one tariff.
How does the tarrif rate compare with the UK? As I remember there was or still is a distinct advantage to use economy 7.

Re: Electricity Charges
Hi all, While in my apartment in Side last week the electricity meter reader called and found that my meter is faulty [the other five in the block were ok and I have payed previous bills by direct debit]. I was told that I will have to pay for a new meter, anyone any idea how much? I was also told that it might be under guarantee, after all it is only two years old and been in use for a few weeks a year. It is a digital meter and when the meter reader pushed the button hard a figure did flash up, so could it be a loose connection?
regards Phil

Re: Electricity Charges
Well a new meter costs 45-50 lira. I have had to have two new ones - the last one caught fire!! I also had to purchase one for an ex-neighbour when we lived in an apartment and his old meter went beserk and that cost 45 lira.

Re: Electricity Charges
Şantiye (building site) electricity is always expensive..but even so 93 euros for 2 weeks is over the top.
you wont get connected until all the work on the site is finished. .
We were living in an apartment last year in Tosmur which had Şantiye elektrik we had air con. elektrik shower, ..everything elektrik.. there was a generator when the power was cut..which was often last winter....i had to beg him for the bill ..and for the year it came to 1200 ytl...which is high as my normal Tedaş bill is about 35 ytl
So yesss..he has ripped you off!!
