Re: Solar energy
Strangely enough I had a conversation with a Kuşadasi official (via interpreter) who said that a good idea would be to introduce solar energy here in Turkey, (not just the every day water bit). However as I am not that technical, (all this KWs Mzs etc. bunkum) put the idea at the back of my mind.
I think you may struggle especially on a parochial basis to find what you want but why not import/set up a system you can market yourself? Now theres a thing!

Re: Solar energy
I visited an exhibition, here in Antalya, on Friday. The exhibition focused on solar energy and energy saving.
Speaking to a couple of reps. It appears that a law was passed in 2004 allowing Tedas to buy electicity from domestic customers, as already happens in countries like Germany and the UK.
Nothing has happened because nobody has been appointed to manage the department.
Photovoltaic cells and associated equipment are imported therefore driving up the cost of installations. Turkish companies are waiting to start manufacturing this equipment but will not invest until Tedas get themselves organised.
Apparently there is a group of newly built houses in Kusadasi where some of the electrical appliances with low consumption run on DC and the rest of the house runs on AC.
One of the reps said that photovoltaic installations are, currently , only viable for properties where there is no supply and the cost of connection is prohibitive. He told me that he had done a costing on his own house and that it would take 33 years to pay for itself.

Re: Solar energy
Thanks for the replıes, we have found a wınd turbıne company ın Izmır that can supply a package whıch would produce enough electrıcıty for two houses at a cost of 10k, stıll hıgh but cheaper than Tedas want and obvıously free electrıcıty after ınstallatıon, ıf we go wıth them I wıll update on here for other users who may be ınterested ın the green optıon

Re: Solar energy
My understanding is that the electricity produced is stored in batteries for use through the hours of darkness.
I imagine the number and or size of these to be enormous. How much space must be allocated to provide power for requirements for a house?

Hi
Forgive my ignorance but when we bought our place, the question of electricity wasnt even discussed and our complex has just been linked to electricity power supply cables as normal.
I am staggered that ,when you bought your place, you were presumably given a purchase price which you paid and now you are faced with this £13,000 initially just to be connected.
We bought our apartment for £51,000 including legal fees but if my agent had on completion said to me "right thats the place all your and paid for but can we have £10,000 from your complex to bring the electricity in", I would think he was having a laugh!!
Ok you own the place but it might as well be a load of rubble without services like water and electricity and I cant understand how someone can sell a place without including them.
I am probably being dim here but can you explain it to me how you have bought a villa without mains services in the purchase contract and why would people do that.
Is it like you chose where it would go and built it yourself via a builder?
I am confused but thats not difficult LOL

Re: Solar energy
as said its farcical to buy a place without knowing you were going to have services. we paid nothing for our services ,not even connection charge .and we paid £32000 for a 3 bed apt back in 2004. inc all legal fee,s and est commision fee,s. this was on a unbuilt complex.

Re: Solar energy
You are one of the lucky ones Biggles if it all went to plan. These people are not daft and I don't suppose they expected to be in this position. Sadly there seem to be more and more tales of builders in Turkey who are either not able or willing to fulfill their obligations.

Hi Jane
Please dont think we are saying they are daft.
My first thought reading the post was ???? and I was curious for an explanation partly in case I was too dim to understand it.
I suppose for those of us who bought under an "all inclusive" contract, finished article, deeds, services connected,it seemed strange thats all.
Hopefully as members respond, it will become clearer as to the relative merits of each option as this forum is such a learning curve for most of us
