Reduce Global Warming Tomorrow
Tomorrow Saturday 29th March, you can show that you want to help reduce Global Warming by turning off the lights and other electronical equipment in your home (also switch off the standby function) for one hour between 8 pm and 9 pm.
Reflect for that one hour (by candle light) with friends and neighbours.
Here is a You Tube video about Earth Hour.

Re: Reduce Global Warming Tomorrow
I do find this type of enviourmental issues misleading. To be aware of the amount of energy one uses,is a breach of our freedom, dictated by the authorities towards the people into thinking that this is the way to save the earth.Which is rubbish.
The human population increases by 30 million every year, but the earth is not expanding. So the use of energy will keep on increasing as the human population increases, resulting in a ever more destructive behaviour towards the limited materials from the earth,as we carry on concreting the countryside to house the population. This will lead to the continuous unstoppable rape of the worlds rain forests, and also, many other species of wildlife will either be extinct or endangered.
We must have the attitude of what is the real cause of all this,by getting down the root cause of all this, and the politician must stop pussy footing around into thinking that they can persuade the public into paying yet more tax, they call the green tax. That doesn’t solve the problem,.what will solve the problem is a positive way of thinking towards the worldly home we are accomadating. And have a proper global management policy, that will be beneficial to us all.
The monetary system is one of these destructive powers, causing global warming. There are many cash strapped countries, with rain forests, that have massive foreign depts.,that are easily persuaded by international companies into selling logging rights, which some of these countries is their only assets to pay off these foreign debts,.There are many other enviourmental threats that we face.

Re: Reduce Global Warming Tomorrow
I remember posting about this last year and will do my little bit again.
It wasn't very well advertised this year as this is the first time iv'e heard of it.
So lights off & candles out tomorrow evening.
Talking of candles, in what comedy did the mention of Fork Handles arise. ?

Re: Reduce Global Warming Tomorrow
Oh yes lets reduce global warming. Lets turn the major culprit (the sun) off for a day or two.
Its a cyclic thing, admittedly made worse by us but not in any way preventable and if we were all to do our bit, it would be just that, a bit, a very small fraction of a fraction in the big scheme of things.
Nothing wrong with making some sort of effort but at this current time with India, China, USA throwing out all manner of things it is no more than a token gesture.
I don't mind doing my 'Bit' but realistically I am peeing in the wind.

Re: Reduce Global Warming Tomorrow
It has now become,a fashion to do your part,to save the planet in the western world, while other countries are increasing their energy demands[like a runaway train] to fuel their needs of supply.lndustrial buildings are popping up and, housing to accommodate the families to work in industry, are all damaging the earth,by stripping the countryside, and with ever more demands on the earth resources.
So the authorities have been telling us by turning of lightbulbs,at a certain time of day will be a contribution towards the saving of the planet,so while the ones that tells us what to do,their driving around in their prestige vehicles, has so many light bulbs in their, one of many houses globally, that even the fairgrounds would be put in the dark.Politicians make me want to throw up with their hypocriosy attitude.
L have been a keen environmentalist for a couple of decades now,l read a lot of literature on the earth resources and studied the impack that it is having on the earth resources.l have been writing many letters to the authorities,on what the reasons are towards the global warming, and the raping of the earth foliage globally on how it is so important to keep the greenery in place. But all these letters l wrote, are on death ears.Nothing new their, they are more interested in the global economy that is fueled by selfishness and greed, ignoring the real facts on the earths damaging eco-system.Since the earth resources is the economy, and the economy is governed by the authorities. Then they need to put blinkers on the public into thinking that they are doing something about the saving of the planet, and one of those blinkers is the light bulb issue.
So as they speak on the saving of the planet, they promote globally, the useage of cars, build more houses ,factories, increased air travel resulting in bigger airports, and all these structures are consuming a lot of energy. And then you get some dickhead in authority, that comes along on a public relation chore,to promote his ego,to plant a tree and says to the gullible,by planting a tree is a contribution to the saving of the planet, while at the same time,in another part of the world, there destructive activity involved to make way for more of the infrastructure to feed this economy.
These are deceptive and hypocritical methods,,only to fool the public into thinking what they want you to think
Mushroom has spoken a lot of sense.
