Builder makes up the cost of the bill
We purchased an Apartment in Turgutreis at the end of last year. We have had the electricity cut off and after asking the builder why, he has informed us that we need to pay £700 - yet we have only spent about 8 weeks over the year in the apartment. He refuses to put it back on until this has been paid. Been to see a lawyer as we have no electricity meter and he wont send us a copy of the bill so we cannot prove how much we owe. tempted to just pay it as cant use the apartment without electricity, but fear that this will go on and on charging us whatever he feels like. We have no habitation license and sounds like he has no plans to issue one any time soon. we own an apartment on a complex of 12 but as only one other unit has been sold so far, we don't have any back up from other residents.
Has anyone else had a similar problem? if so have how have you managed to resolve your dispute?

Re: Builder makes up the cost of the bill
Is he still building if he is he will be on builders rate (santiye mesken) and it sounds like he is asking you to cough up for the electricity he is using elsewhere on the development.
Whatever the reason behind it I think it is totally unacceptable, good luck with getting your leccy back on and sorting the builder out.

Re: Builder makes up the cost of the bill
Sounds to me as if the builder has built the complex and ,with only two sold, has run up the electricity bill himself during the building work. He is now trying to get you to cough up for his bill.
Our builder had to pay the electricity until each apartment was sold and it was transferred into our name and we paid about £20 for our 4 weeks in our place.
Your builder may have run up a bill with the electric company and they are adding interest to the debt.
The habitation certificate issue has been covered in other threads and builders have been very slack in getting these sorted before selling the properties leaving owners to pay a higher rate for their electricity. The general feeling seems to be to get this certificate sorted urgently so the Tapu can show you as owners with full habitation rights and render you liable for the cheaper utilities charges.
You cant possibly owe £1000 for 8 weeks even with the transfer charge to put it into your name so he is having a laugh!! I think

This is something that really annoys me about buying in Turkey. Everytime something like this happens it's £100s. If it was a Turk you know it wouldn't be anything of the sort.
