The electric price rises.....again!
The constant raises of the electric price is slowly starting to really take its toll from our economy. Since we came here in february this year we´ve seen our bills raise from an average of 60-70 lira each month to this years top record of 209 lira for one month. And this is using exactly the same equipment the whole time, nuthin fancy, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washing machine, AC and such. And mind you, we are very careful with the AC, only uses it when it is really necessary, running the dishwasher and washing machine not more than two-three times a week and so on, using the hot water heater for a couple of hours maybe three times a week. Really trying to keep the consumption as low as possible......No electrical heaters or something like that.
This month the bill was at 189 lira and i cant for the love of my life understand how it could be so high. I have no idea at all how to cut back on the consumption, theres nothing to cut really, and with the new raise coming in january im afraid it will put our economy in "an early grave". Now we pay about double the amount every month compared to what we paid in Sweden, and the electric prices in that country is ridiculously high.
How do the turkish people get by with these prices? Are there any protest going on from consumer organizations and such? I could maybe take the pain and keep my mouth shut if it wasnt for the fact that the quality of power delivery still is poor, power outages (especially summetime) almost daily, power "spikes" that makes home electronic equipment (TV, computers, Internet modems) suffer.......
I read somewhere (Hurriyet maybe) that 48-50% of the turkish power plants are running on natural gas (doĝal gaz) as fuel, is that the truth? Because the gas prices (aswell as petrol) are on a low level at the moment, but was really high earlier this year. Can we expect a lowering of electric prices because of that?
People with a more extensive experience of this, do you have any information about this issue?

Re: The electric price rises.....again!
I was watching the news the other night and they were saying if people were having problems paying their bills they could pay them back in installments.

Re: The electric price rises.....again!
I live alone in a 2 bed apartment, no dishwasher, washing machine on 3 times a week and water heater only when absolutely necessary, yet my electricity bill has not been below 85 ytl a month. Last Winter with just one oil fired radiator on occasionally, my highest bill was 325 YTL. I am now dreading this Winter's bills!

Re: The electric price rises.....again!
electricity hikes are not confined to Turkey
Here in Belfast our electricity has went up 51% in past year
There is only one provider here so we have no choice just pay up!

Re: The electric price rises.....again!
i cant understand the high bills you are paying.
İ have a UFO heater, dishwasher, washing machine telly Pc, toaster, electric kettle AC microwave etc..and weve never paid more than 120 lira in the winter..and around 30/50 in the summer...our bill has just come in and its 83 lira..the month before was 54 lira...next months will be higher as we have the heater on a lot now.
You should check your meters to see they are ok.

Re: The electric price rises.....again!
Has your electric meter got 3 tariffs, such as Meskin tariff. The three tariffs are
1. Gunduz (standard rate) runs between 0.600 and 17.00
2. Puant (highest) runs between 17.00 and 22.00 (70% more than the standard rate)
3. Gece (lowest) runs between 22.00 and 6.00 (half the standard rate)
Here in the UK I always put my dishwasher on through the night and more often than not the washing machine - just use timer switches on the plugs.

Re: The electric price rises.....again!
Shirley has a point. We ran into this before where the electric people had us being charged under the commercial rate....was told it's not all that uncommon. They simply say they are sorry for the mistake but you can't get any of your money back.
