How to get the water/Electricity change to our name.

Hi There.

Having recently bought a property in Kusadasi How do we go about changing the water and electricity from our estate agens name to our own. Things are going a bit stale with the estate agent and we want to sever all ties with him. Both water and electricity are in his name at the moment

Many THanks

Colin.

Take a copy of your tapu and passport down to your local TEDAS and they will transfer the electric over. I am not sure about the water as ours was transferred over with our house you could try your local council.

Thats about right. Generally speaking you need your tapu, passport and habitation certificate and it helps to have the TEDAS reference number (take an old bill). You'll need to complete their form and settle any outstanding amounts on the account.

For the water, head down to your council office again with tapu, passport and habitation certificate. This time you need the serial number off the water meter and again, you'll have to settle any outstanding amounts on the bill.

Shouldn't be more than about 150YTL to do the transfer for each of them if everything is in order and some of that 150YTL is classed as a deposit (guvence) and you will eventually get it back.

If you're unsure about whether a habitation certificate has been issued, check your tapu. There are two boxes, one marked "Kat Mulkiyeti" which means habitation certificate issued and one marked "Kat Irtifaki" which means it hasn't been issued. If the first has been ticked you're OK, you can get a copy from the Belediye. If the second is ticked then you really need to get that sorted.

What I will say though, and this applies only to Fethiye, is that we got the utilities changed on a property earlier this year without a habitation certificate. All that was needed was an old bill, the tapu and a passport.

If I've got any of that wrong, I'm sure someone will correct it.

On checking mine the box is not ticked but the kat irtifaki has an X next to it does this mean yes we do, or no we dont ?

Having said that we have got utilities transferred to our name and no issues.

What does a habitation certificate cost and what are the implications of not having it. The property is now about 3 years old.

Thanks for the Info people.

My TAPU is also marked kat irtifaki meaning no Habitation cert. Could this possibly mean we can't use our villa until we get it and get the utilities reconnected? This is not good news for us because we hope to retire there some time soon. How do I get a Habitation certificate if this is the case? Like I said ... things have gone sour with our estate agent and getting him to organise it for us will be like pulling teeth. Any advice on this would be fantastic..

Ok, maybe that wasn't as clear as it could have been...

If "Kat Mulkiyeti" is ticked or crossed it means a habitation certificate has been granted and if "Kat Irtifaki" is ticked or crossed it means a habitation certificate hasn't as yet been granted.

Juco, if you haven't got one I think you only have four or five years from completion of build in which to get one, else all documents have to be resubmitted to the belediye for approval. Not 100% on that, maybe one of our property professionals would care to confirm or correct...?

Hi Again.

So working on the assumption that we have no Habitation Certificate... how do we get the utilities connected again in our name? We currently have no water or electricity.

Was the same in Dalaman his August. In fact all I needed was my Tapu and and passport and some help from my builder in translating. It took about 10 miutes each for the electricity and water. I had to fill in a form for electricity transfer at an electrical shop who I presume sorted it out and at the belediye for the water.

I suppose the thing to do is give it a try Colin, as it stands you've got nothing to lose.
