A Planned Deception

Do you think the foreigners have been tricked into buying property here in Turkey with overinflated prices way back in 2004 to 2005,even though they said at the time you won't get that any cheaper.

And the legal documents that were promised was a set up cleverly planned with the property industry and the authorities.Because if the authorities are corrupt, this influences the one's that sides with them.

l know we have been told the property will increase 10 % every year but what are your views on that one, when at present the properties are not selling unless the prices are dropped a lot to meet the more realistic price. So really it has decreased 10% every year.

Do you think the realistic price was deliberately hidden at that time with the aid of solicitors and the authoritative boards.

l have read and heard of so many stories of buyers that l can now see a pattern taking place. And the pattern is forming a picture as the peices are being snapped together like a jig saw puzzle.

Unhappy Re: A Planned Deception

Bob, you have hit the head firmly on the head.
This scam has been on-going for a while now and no one in power has done a dam thing about it.
Turkey is ranked 4th in the countries with the most billionares.
Ever likely if they are getting help from their own authorities to rob people blind.
Could you imagine this happening in UK.
I do not think so!!!

Re: A Planned Deception

I don't think there's anything suspicious about the fall in the price of property in recent years. I think it's just an unfortunate fallout from the global decline, that nobody could have possibly forseen.

Nothing more than bad timing in my opinion.

I think we'll see an upturn in a year or two.

Only in as much they will always ask for a higher price and if one pays it then the next will be even higher, Most brits fuelled this by comparing prices to the uk, 6/7 years ago you could buy a property in Altinkum for under £10k but the brits made it all too easy for them to hike the price up. the higher they went the more we bought as it looked like they were increasing at a fantastic rate..they werent... we were just prepared to pay more at a fantastic rate.

The solicitors only provide a legal contract they are not there to value a property, same as the uk.

There is no doubt plenty of corruption at all levels but I dont think ALL of it was coordinated as a master plan. It does appear developers and solicitors work hand in hand in many cases, but I also believe that the fraudsters have found the flaws in the legal system and capitalise on it. The authorities only turn a blind eye in as much that previous to increases in tourism and foreignproperty ownership their legal system coped quite well with everything and like many other countries although they will be aware of it and indeed some taking advantage of it legislation takes years to correct and improve upon.

This is why I will always argue that the biggest single defence we currently have is a low (10%) deposit until all paperwork is in place, you virtually beat any corruption by doing this.

Re: A Planned Deception

I think the true story is a bit of both...... there has always been a Turkish price and a yabanci one. Most sellers/developers held out for the Yabanci price and we thought it was cheap and gobbled it up. It is only now that we realise that maybe we paid over the odds.... the fault is our own. The biggest con is the wait around for the Tapu due to military checks....many a scam has been done on the back of a delayed tapu!
it still frustrates me today that tourists come and say "you wouldn't get it that cheap in the UK" .... you wouldn't work for the wages in the UK either!

Re: A Planned Deception

I too dont think that we were tricked into buying for us is was simple price was right other countrys were more expensive though now I have to agree that the loopholes in the law and corrupt Lawyers/Builders/Landowners that we now know about as well as the lack of co-operation from the government to right the wrongs seem to fuel the ongoing corruption I dont think there was a planned deception. We all have choices and the choices we make determine our life and you can never go back and say if only because we made that choice no one else.
