Hi, I'm going to ask for advice, so bear with me. I'm thinking of moving to Fethiye (from Shrewsbury) and am going on a property viewing trip 10-14 Sept.
Can anyone tell me of a reliable lawyer just in case I'm tempted, though I think I should live in a place for a while before buying. Likewise an emlak.
Are there any women who retired there on their own; I'd like to chat to one/lots about what it's like. I typed in 'Turkish women' on the site and regretted it. Are there any artists / printmakers who could advise suppliers, give advice etc. I'm thinking of staying over winter so where's the warmest spot in area. Antalya looks a bit
claustrophobically overbuilt but is it warmer? Fethiye seems a lot nicer. As you can tell, I'm very green about all this but if anyone can provide some information I would really appreciate it.

How are things in general? What's the economy like? Is it all doom and gloom like Spain with businesses shutting down? Or are they still doing a brisk trade?

Hello all,
I'm Pauline, currently residing in Izmir after having lived in Bartin (in the northwest) since January 2010.

I'm a UK citizen who met a lovely Turkish man called Murat in Glasgow. Sadly, his visa to remain here was refused in July 2009 so he returned to Turkey, and eventually I joined him in January.

Unfortunately, his recent visa application to return to the UK as my husband was refused - we are currently appealing. I like Turkey, but I am finding it very difficult to settle here, let alone learn the language! But we will be waiting until at least sometime next year for the appeal hearing, so I might as well try to enjoy my time here.

We are expecting our first baby in February 2011. Since Murat will not be allowed into the UK to see the baby being born, we have decided to have the baby here in Izmir, and I will get it a UK birth certificate/passport asap. We want to avoid the little one having the same stress Murat has encountered with visas!

It's been a lonely 8 months for me out here, with only Murat to talk to. So I joined this site, hoping that I can meet English-speakers and feel less isolated. I read a few posts about British women giving birth in Turkey - I have been dreading it myself due to my lack of sufficient Turkish, but am more reassured now. We have been going to a hospital in Buca to see the midwife.

Does anyone here live in Izmir? I am in Gaziemir, near the airport. It would be so nice to meet other Brits and make some friends, and not feel so alone any more.

Thanks for reading :o)

Hi All (I hope i have put this in the right place)

We have been members' since July 09, this is when we, Martin and I Annette decided to sell our place and move to Turkey.

I have done alot of reading and learning here on TFL and have found it very informative thank you too all and we still haven't been put off LOL.:5:

The plan is to come over in October 10 and find reasonable long term rental for between 3-6 months whilst we get a feel for things and look for a place to buy.......any pointers on what would be considerd reasonable? We wouldn't need anything grand, but something quite central to conveniences wouldn't want to be stuck up a mountain.....we need life around us if you know what I mean?

To any prospective landlords, we are both 49 and would treat any ones home with respect, as we would our own.

All the best
Annette & Martin :bigkiss:

Hi All
I am new to the Forum and to be honest I am not too sure how it all works. and not being overly confident on computers doesn't help.
I started out looking on the internet for a group of expats/holiday home owners in Bodrum that I might join and found the Forum.
I live in Lancashire and my husband and I have a holiday place in Bitez, that one day we hope to retire to. In the meantime I thought it would be a good idea to get to know some other english speaking people, who holiday or live in the area. My husband may be Turkish (married forever !!), but my Turkish Language skills are pitiful, even after all these years. So I was hoping to meet others in the same boat as myself.
Anyone out there who may be able to help? Hope so, thanks SueB
