Hi -
We have an apartment in Didim, which I use at Easter, May half term and for 6 weeks in the summer. Having spent far too much time this year running to the internet cafe at night in the dark to speak to the family still at home I have decided to look into getting internet provision installed when we return at easter next year and taking a laptop over with me. Can anyone advise me with reference to their own experiences of having it installed? i'm looking for recommendations of Internet providers - in particular individual shops in Didim that might provide the whole service, any problems that might be avoided etc. Can I also ask what sort of costs I would be taking on in terms of installation and monthly bills...given that its only occassional use I don't want to spend a fortune on this. I would be using it for Skype connection, emails, facebook, watching programmes on catch up TV and general browsing. Many Thanks in advance just for reading this.

Hi there

I am planning a 2 month trip to Turkey (Dalyan) and will need to work from our place of residence which does not have wifi!

Can anyone advise me on the best way to use a mobile broadband dongle (I have a UK dongle) & credit in Turkey and how long this might last for use on the internet, email & skype.

Also, I will also need to use a mobile to mainly receive but occasionally make calls back to the UK fairly regularly (often UK mobile numbes) - I imagine that buying a Turkish SIM is good for this BUT I do not want the callers to realise I'm ringing from Turkey - any ideas!!

Many thanks

I have a Turkish mobile but its very cheap and very slow so I will soon buy a new better one. Is it better to buy directly from Turkcell as I will stay with them and use my old sim card, or can you buy handsets cheaper elsewehere? I wont go down the route of taking one over from UK because I actually paid 3 times to have it registered and they just kept cutting me off again!!

Vodafone are doing a deal called SIMO, this is a yearly contract which does not include a new mobile phone.

So what do you get, not alot really.

3000 Free inclusive Texts & 300 minutes Free Inclusive calls.

And the Price just £10 a month.

I was on an 18 month contract and the cost was getting higher every month so i decided to change to a PAYG sim when Vodafone told me about this deal.

So from £30+ to £10 a month is a big saving for anybody this day & age.

OK, I,ve read old threads relating to bringing a phone over from the UK and registering it here and I still have a couple of questions.

Is proof of purchase in the UK required or will a copy of your passport be sufficient?

Are there only specific shops that you can register it or can we go into any Turkcell shop?

Thanks.

My daughter was given a uk phone for birthday and registered it in march this year in Turkey. All ok on avea, lots of texting et al, all topped up on time etc and just now got message displayed...inactive sim. Off we trot to the avea shop and they said that a foreign phone be registered for 3 months....
is this Istanbullshit or true?
I can understand the need to stop a huge influx of mobiles but to deactivate them without notice is draconian! When she registered the phone there was no mention of a validity period.
Are we being had or is this a new xenophobic measure?
