house insurance
Just a quick question on house insurance. I know about the compulsory earthquake insurance but is it also possible to insure using a uk insurer or does it need to be a local one? If so, what do they cover, ie fire, theft, damage etc. and rough cost?
thanks again, Calum

Re: house insurance
There are very few UK insurers who'll cover a Turkish property.
However, it's worth talking to AXA who have branches over here and also HSBC bank.
Also, might be worth taking a look at the Land of Lights, Olu Deniz Post and Fethiye Times for adverts offering insurance from big companies.

Re: house insurance
Yes we did in February. It all seemed straightforward, similar price to the Turkish policy last year. The big attraction was that I can read and understand the policy and also it gives you a large third party cover. Of course we won't know how good they are until we need to claim. However I have been told by a Turk that most Turkish insurance companies are not good at paying out on a claim, but how true that is I don't know. It would be interesting to hear from anyone who has needed to claim on Intasure.

Re: house insurance
Hi Calum
We insured through our bank Garanti. One thing to look out for is the value of your property for insurance purposes. It would be cheaper to re-build in the event of an earthquake as you will already own the land. The bank can provide a copy of the policy in English.
Good luck Rob

Re: house insurance
I found Intasure quite expensive, (based on what others have been quoted), I'm paying about £40 with Axa locally (including broker fees) as oppossed to over £140 that people have been quoted on another forum with Intasure.

Re: house insurance
We have insurance through Hiscox.
I wanted insurance cover principally to cover 3rd party claims from anyone renting the villa. I therefore wanted a known and reliable UK name.
This excludes earthquake damage - which is arranged seperately.
