Gocek Tunnel Latest....
Work on the much awaited Gocek tunnel has now restarted and the first arches of the tunnel entrance have been completed to the Gocek side. On the Dalaman side the access roads have been laid. The contractors estimate that the 960 meter tunnel will be completed by 1 April 2006. Once completed the contractors will charge a toll to use the tunnel but as yet these are unknown. The new tunnel along with other road improvements will reduce the journey time between airport and resort.

a bit of useless info here. i read somewhere that the tunnel would cut off 30mins time to the a/port...so on recent visit to izmir by coach through boredom i timed the trip over the mountain from the tunnel entrance on the gocek side to the other side, was 6 mins so the tunnel given it would take 1 min to get through would only save 5 mins time. i did it on the way back too and got stuck behind a tractor it only took 1 min longer...told you it was useless info!!
