Hiya, can any one clarify some charges that have been dropped on me by my agent.
He says that Olu Deniz municipality (who apparently want to create new map drawings of the area) are requesting a "registration" fee of 500 milyon turkish lira which is appx 200 pounds. He says this is a one off payment every new purchaser now has to pay that supercedes the old fethiye counsel registration which he says was more expensive at 800 milyon. I wasnt aware of any council registration fees. Any one come across this?

OK I will try to explain.
When you pay for your deeds you are paying the following:
* 3% property tax ( only what is stated on the deeds)
* government earthquake insurance (mandatory)
* registration with local council
* planning office fees
* agean army searches


So the powers that be in Fethiye decided that to fund a new project....namely the new marina stretching to Calis, that they would add 2 millyar (approx 800 pounds), to the whole process. Needless to say there was a bit of an outcry from us agents but they locked the meeting and set the price.
But due to a lot of pressure and maybe some guilt, they dropped it to 1 millyar (approx 400 pounds).
If your deeds have been applied for before November you will not have to pay this. BUT what we are hearing through this forum and other sources is that some agents are jumping on this and charging extra money to pocket themselves.
But sometimes deeds cannot be applied for straight away due to the delay in the turkish process unforunaetly.
1. Check when your deeds were applied for.
2. It is 400 pounds not 500 pounds and to be safe pay in lira. 1 millya. (or 1,000 YTL)

Thanks Anne, the deeds were applied for after Nov, so it looks like this is a genuine fee. I worked out all my costs last August which is why this fee wasnt picked up then. I hope the boat owners at Calis are very happy with their marina! Do I get free harbouring?
