Re: Looking for opinions and advice on job hunt
Hi Jenny,
Have you looked on a website called Els cafe?
there pretty good info on there about teaching abroad & sometimes jobs are advertised, or you may even find people working int he area you are looking at on their forum!
Good luck! I hope something comes thru for you!

Re: Looking for opinions and advice on job hunt
Hi jenny I met an american teacher on the beach and she was telling me how difficult it was to find work. You really should have permission to work which she said was hard to get. it seemed that she was doing some private tuition illegally but it was badly paid even on turkish standards.
however i have been told from another source that well off turkish families love to find english school teachers to tutor their children. so you never know, good luck

Re: Looking for opinions and advice on job hunt
Hi Jenny,
I don't think you will have luck here in this forum, but if you try some private Turkish schools web sites you will see most parents are rich and will love to have hire you for their kids. But those schools are only in big cities like Istanbul Ankara Izmir and Antalya. Some kids might come for summer vacation then here you go, then you don't have to go to them they come to you.
Well these are just the ideas, hope you find what you are looking for. Good luck to you.

Re: Looking for opinions and advice on job hunt
Having spoken to a number of teachers in Fethiye, I have to say that your prospects of earning a living wage are not high. Even (Turkish) graduate teachers, in full-time employment with loads of experience will be on less than £3000.
There is no shortage of people wanting to learn English, but they don't have the money to pay for tuition. You did not say what your subject is, so I assumed it is English you want to teach.
I can not envisage Turkish families that I know employing a baby sitter (let alone a foreigner who does not speak Turkish), so you are aiming at holidaymakers, presumably?
Working illegally is a huge risk.
There are opportunities to do voluntary work teaching English, but if you have to earn a wage that will not be of any use to you.
Good luck
Ian

Re: Looking for opinions and advice on job hunt
Thanx Umit,
I did contact a private school in Istanbul and sent them my CV but haven't heard anyhting back yet. Thanks for th good luck wish!
Thanx Ian,
Gosh - didnt realise they earned that little - I couldnt live of that!!
My specialist subject is Advanced Study of Early Years but as a primary school teacher, I obviously have to be an expert at teaching EVERYTHING!
On the baby sitting front, I was thinking more along the lines of Ex-pats who have kids and like regular nights out (without them!) or who work over there and need a sitter during the day.
Working illegally won't be an option for me - if I was to work I wouldn't do it without a permit!
Thanks for your replies!
