Fethiye

Fethiye with its cultural wealth, natural beauties and geography, is among the important tourism centres of Turkey. Fethiye is famous for its works of art belong to Persians, Lycians, Carians and Romans.

This charming county is in a bay within Fethiye Bay where both large and small islands are scattered. The rear of the bay is surrounded by pine forests.

History: The ancient name of Fethiye, which was a coastal city at the borders of Lycia-Caria, is Telmessos. There is not definite information about the foundation of this Ancient city. According to the first written records, it has come into existence in the 5th century B.C. Telmessos, separate from Lycia, survived as an independent city for a long time. The city experienced the rule of Persia, Alexander the Great, Rome, Pergamum Kingdom, Byzantium, Menteşeoğulları Principality and Ottoman State respectively.

Climate: Mediterranean climate, which is hot and dry during summers and warm and rainy during winters, is dominant in the region. Temperature, which is approximately 30 degrees during summer months, is generally over 10 degrees during winter. Sea water temperature never decreases under 16 degrees during each season.

Fethiye can be reached easily by road from all cities in Turkey. The nearest airports are Dalaman Airport (50 km) and Bodrum Airport (255 km). Besides the flights of Turkish Airlines both in summer and winter, it is also possible to benefit from the flights from European cities during tourism season. Antalya Airport, at a distance of three hours from Fethiye, also provides transportation to Fethiye.

Naturally sheltered Fethiye harbour is a resort place for all yacht owners. The ships belong to Turkish Maritime Lines also stop by Fethiye.

Rock Carpets woven by local people, head scarves with grape motifs, saddlebags and sacks made of wool and Karaçulha rugs can be bought in shops and bazaars of Fethiye.

I just get a bit peeved by the same old stuff that's being copied and pasted from site to site with the same mistakes.

I know Umit's Turkish, but I'm English, and I'm as proud of my language as he is of his.

I thought the problem is over, have a nice year old boy.
Yes you are right I am also proud of being Turkish. I hope you speak Turkish very well without any mistakes. If you even make mistakes don’t worry Turks won't mad at you, They respect you as a British and your language. I am sure you know this very well since you are living in Turkey.

Re: Fethiye

I got up this morning before the sun came over the mountain and it was a glorious sight, as the sun started to rise it hit the mountains and wow! the scenery was so clear. Hubby has gone fishing to day in a friends boat from Olu Deniz, packed him off nice and early so he is somewhere in "the Fethiye gulf" envious? you bet i am. When out on the water and you look back at the rugged scenery and scattered Islands, the sheer beauty and tranquility is enough to make anyone smile.

As for spelling and speaking the Turkish language I wish that I could learn Turkish as good as the Turks learn the English language.

Re: Fethiye

I think that most Turks on this forum speak/write English as good as most Brit's? I wish I could be half as fluent in Turkish as Umit is in English, keep up the good work
