Fethiye in winter?

So many members asking what is Fethiye like at the moment? thought I would post a little to let you know. maybe each month during the winter a member from each area could do the same, it is not needed during the summers as the post would be very repetative.

Yesterday it was a glorious sunny day, a little nippy at times with the air coming direct from the snow tipped mountains (Yes I know waxing lyrical). Yesterday was also the Sacrificial festival, Kurban Bayram, being a religous festival the roads were very quiet with just a little traffic probably families off visiting friends and relatives for festive celebrations.

During our walk around the area on the way to Fethiye we saw a transit van, the driver was was calling over a loud speaker for people to bring out the animal pelts from the recent sacrifice, the pelts are supposedly taken to families living in remote quarters for warmth, it was later pointed out to us that many make towards the leather factories.

I had a jacket on but it was starting to feel rather warm, we weaved our way through the roads still heading towards Fethiye and the water front. On the way we were greeted by children trying out their English and amused at my attempts at Turkish, a "Merhaba" and smile from the many Turkish we passed by. Was the warm feeling the sun shining? I like to think that is was the warmth of the smiles offered by those of all we passed by.

By the time we reached the water front it was nearly 4pm, we stop at Yakamoz Restaurant for Tea and Coffee, sitting on the waters edge, taking in the amazing views, slowly watching the skies fade from blue to streaky pink and orange over the sea and mountains. We made our way home taking in the views before the sun went to bed for another day.

What were you doing on the Tuesday the 10th January 2006??

Thanks Lorraine,
It is very nice to share Fethiye news and pictures from thousands of miles away from Turkey. Only thing is missing is on this post the smell of the air . I wish there was an option on this forum you can post the air too .
You are very lucky being there. Please take a deep breath for me and enjoy the Turkish air and the sun.
Oh forgot to tell what I did that day: Just worked and worked. And thougt about Turkey like I do almost every day.

Lorraine I had a lovely ride on my motorbike? The weather was warm (for this time of year) and more important "dry". Its days like these that you are reminded that the world is a good place, although I think there may be more of these types of day in Turkey than Blighty lol
Oh, and its my birthday tommoz so thats another good one?

Lorraine

Thanks! I've had an absolutely c**p day at work - there's only so much of other people's problems I can take without getting bored! - the patients are fine - it's the staff that cause me a headache!

I haven't been to Fethiye in January YET .................................. but there is still time.............................God! I know where I would rather be!

Thanks for the photos .............. to remind me what I am missing - it's still beautiful! My favourite place!

My only consolation was going to the pub quiz tonight...................but even there we came 4th and won a packet of Twiglets!! Need I say more!

Thanks for the pics x

Thanks Lorraine, Lovely pictures.

Here in North Wales it was a dreadful day, blowing a gale and very cold. Roll on Summer. Looking forward to going to Altinkum in May. You never know we may be able to visit Fethiye whilst we are there or maybe some other time when we are over there for longer.

Lovely post Lorraine and nice to see the pics.

Here in West Wales it was a sunny day and more importantly dry.We put the 'lid' down on our car and went for one of our favourite drives through the mountains.
Here's a pic on the route taken earlier last year (leaves on the trees!)
