So many members asking what is Fethiye like at the moment? thought I would post a little to let you know. maybe each month during the winter a member from each area could do the same, it is not needed during the summers as the post would be very repetative.
Yesterday it was a glorious sunny day, a little nippy at times with the air coming direct from the snow tipped mountains (Yes I know waxing lyrical). Yesterday was also the Sacrificial festival, Kurban Bayram, being a religous festival the roads were very quiet with just a little traffic probably families off visiting friends and relatives for festive celebrations.
During our walk around the area on the way to Fethiye we saw a transit van, the driver was was calling over a loud speaker for people to bring out the animal pelts from the recent sacrifice, the pelts are supposedly taken to families living in remote quarters for warmth, it was later pointed out to us that many make towards the leather factories.
I had a jacket on but it was starting to feel rather warm, we weaved our way through the roads still heading towards Fethiye and the water front. On the way we were greeted by children trying out their English and amused at my attempts at Turkish, a "Merhaba" and smile from the many Turkish we passed by. Was the warm feeling the sun shining? I like to think that is was the warmth of the smiles offered by those of all we passed by.
By the time we reached the water front it was nearly 4pm, we stop at Yakamoz Restaurant for Tea and Coffee, sitting on the waters edge, taking in the amazing views, slowly watching the skies fade from blue to streaky pink and orange over the sea and mountains. We made our way home taking in the views before the sun went to bed for another day.
What were you doing on the Tuesday the 10th January 2006??
