Tourist areas
We have recently bought in Fethiye which seems to have wonderful attractions and scenery but the areas of Bodrum to the north and Antalya to the south seem to attract the majority of the holiday packages compared to Dalaman and our area.
The latest property packages and deals on the internet also seem to concentrate on those areas and we were wondering why.
The Fethiye area seems a fairly new concept to tourism and presumably the other areas have existed longer. The First Choice website for example has umpteen Bodrum packages yet one for Fethiye.
It doesnt seem to be a question of scenery but perhaps it is access until roads are completed, tunnels built and airports modernised.
We would be interested in comments as to why our area has remained less developed and promoted than say Antalya

Re: Tourist areas
Terry And Susan.
I Reckon You Have It About Right Although Our Area Is Rapidly Improving Its Infrastructure. I Dont Think We Will Ever Have The Total Tourist Numbers Of Bodrum Etc Because Fethiye Is A Real Living Town, Not Totally Reliant On Tourism. We Bought Here For Exactly That Reason. A Golf Course (no Chance I Know!) Or An Upgraded Harbour Area Would Be Very Welcome But I Prefer That We Arent Amongst First Choices Top Destinations.

Re: Tourist areas
Terry and Susan as for Antalya the reason the tour companies like it is because the season is a bit longer this side of the Taurus mountains, so they get more out of it, also because of the golf courses and facilities that a big city offers its going to attract more business.

Re: Tourist areas
Fethiye is geared more to residential than just tourism, that is why it is a great place to live, for Tourism leave that to Hisaronu and Olu Deniz, season usually starts from 1st May to mid/end of October. Fethiye tends to be more laid back after the season but still offers much to do but at a more leisurely pace.
The new promenade and Marina are in the making, this is to encourage the cruise liners that visit occasionally, at the moment they moor off Soyvale Island and then the smaller boats ferry the tourist to Fethiye, I can see that they local businesses will welcome the added revenue, but at least this will only be in the season.
In time the property prices will rise because of this; Thats progress I guess.

Re: Tourist areas
Merhaba all,
Fethiye was never a charm for big Hotel Companys, they can't build here high complex like in Antalya(Hotels for 2500 pax or more )there are few resons for that...anyway like 20 - 25 years ago Bodrum, Marmaris,Antalya...this towns had local tourist already but nearly nobody knew Fethiye the fisrt Tourist been here Backpackers in Ölüdeniz..and the tourism started with Germans late 80'...that time most of the locals been farmers or fishers or some little shops.. than few people changed there homes to pansion and the first hotel for regular tourist been build at Çalış Beach.Ölüdeniz had only camp sides the valley was green the life was slow))Fethiye did lost one chance and that is 'BOUTIQUE'holiday style.small but lot of charm, atmospher family runned hotels and houses.Only in Kaya Village U can find some Charakter Cottages...hope Kaya will not turn to Hisarönü or Ovacık ((it is difficult now.. because the farming is nearly dead also fishing is not good most of locals turned there faces to Tourism and did not get what was expected now big deal sale land houses flats...sooo what will be happen when the money is not invested for future and only in cars and fast living style...no farming..no tourism..no more villas for sale ??
I agree with Lorrains answer and also I hate MC Shit Terry )))
Nevgün

Re: Tourist areas
All this being true, don't forget they have an airport right on their door so it only takes a matter of minutes to get to their hotels.
I think everything has now been covered, anyone for a pint or g&t ladies.
I'll Pay
