Vandalism

I am generally impressed with the low level of vandalism in Fethiye. Even graffiti seems to be low level and, unfortunately, often in English.
Walking into town this morning I was distressed to see the new modern sculpture in the form of a sun dial near Hello Cafe has been smashed with rocks taken from the flower borders.
This conjunction of art and science made of marble and steel was an absolute delight - a thing of beauty. Only in place for a week, it is now in bits.
Officials are on site now seemingly trying to make a repair.
A few weeks ago a marble sign was smashed only a few yards from todays vandalism. It was repaired before the day's end. I hope they can fix this damage.

Re: Vandalism

Passing the scene this morning, they have errected a frame to form a glass wall around the sun dial to protect it in the future. Full marks to Fethiye officials for fast action.

They should install a camera and catch those animals.

Lots of graffiti on the new marina in Turgutreis this time we went, it was all in Turkish though. It's awful, it looks really horrible, if they get caught doing it, God help them, they won't get a quick little telling off like they do over here

I unfortunately didn't get to see the sundial unbroken, i think it lasted less than 48hrs intact? all the more disappointing because it was a gift to the people of Fethiye as a thank you for being allowed to start a business in the area. at least if it had been spray paint it could have been washed off, this seems worse than vandalism somehow.
