Re: Severe Winds Tonight

I think these deaths are caused by them all (family) sleeping in the same room as the fire to keep warm. The fire uses up the oxygen and they all asphyxiate.

Re: Severe Winds Tonight

A soba is a simple stove used by many people to burn wood/coal. Very efficient but like all fires, correct installation and ventilation is essential.

Re: Severe Winds Tonight

Also new problem is many people now have double glazing thus no drafts and thus no air entering the room and of course we keep the door closed. Very good advice keep the chimney pipes clean and seal the joints with fire tape.

They are caused by carbon monoxide poisoning . All wood/multi-fuel burning stoves give off far more carbon monoxide than gas fires and normally this goes up the flue . We have a carbon monoxide sensor positioned over the door to the stairs.

You should always have permanent ventilation if you have a sorba .Not a problem in our traditional house. Seem to remember that it is mandatory under the UK gas regulations to have permanent ventilation in a room if a gas fire is fitted

Re: Severe Winds Tonight

Yes ventilation is critical if not fitted correctly, eg flue/ outlet pipe not high enough it can cause down draft making smoke come back into the room.
Ventilation is also needed for the fire to operate correctly making it draw better.
I don,t know about the quality in turkey are they cast or flat metal ?
Be very careful if in doubt ask
