Jehovah´s Witnesses in Turkey

Jehovah´s Witnesses at the door this morning. First time I have seen them in Fethiye. Two nice (foreign ?) ladies going door-to-door, seems a bit risky.

Re: Jehovah´s Witnesses

Dodgy lot the JW's , right to be careful , never know who is at your door ?

Is it legal to attempt to induce Muslims to abandon their faith , double dodgy ?

Re: Jehovah´s Witnesses

Quite common here in Didim
We had one the other week , I invited him in and asked if he wanted a coffee, after brewing up , I asked him "what now" He said "I don't know, I've never got this far before"

Re: Jehovah´s Witnesses

I used to know the American couple who set-up the Christian church in Fethiye. They have since gone back to USA.
They told me of the problems they faced with the authorities, who tolerated rather than welcomed them. They understood that trying to convert would be a problem, and even practising among Christians living here had to be discrete. They had repeated problems just trying to find a venue that would allow them to gather.

Re: Jehovah´s Witnesses in Turkey

Last summer two young Turkish women came to my door. We spoke initially in Turkish, but then switched to English as one if them was fluent. They were JW's, and were most concerned when I told them I was a confirmed atheist. I asked them about how Turks responded - with rudeness and anger, and if they had difficulty being two women alone - not in Datca, but sometimes.

I admired their courage, if not their convictions.

Re: Jehovah´s Witnesses in Turkey

Isn't there still an American pastor in jail in Izmir? These ladies are taking a risk. . .

Just seen on google's newsfeed

In exchange for the extradition of Mr Gulen, (it is suggested)TC is willing to release US citizens like Andrew Brunson, a protestant pastor arrested in the coastal city of Izmir and now facing charges of spying and membership of a terrorist organisation.

Re: Jehovah´s Witnesses in Turkey

My Mother was a JW, my Father was having none of it. My mother wasn't a "door knocker", she died in her late 40s & I only hope that she found what she believed in but I'm doubtful on that score.

I have three of four living a few doors away from me, polite, pleasant & really nice people. They always stop & have a chat with me but not God stuff, told them from the off that it doesn't work for me.
Dicing with death trying to sell their wares to Turkey I reckon.
