Still love the place and would certainly consider renting there

Re: Buying in Fethiye....?

Understand what your saying but surely u would not go down that path if it was not financially viable in the first place.
I agree with IA that assuming you have done your sums life here can be good for foreigners.
What I find interesting is which area here is the best value combined with the quality of life.

Currently in Fuerterventura talking to locals.
Veg and fruit very expensive.
Booze dirt cheap ie Vodka etc but not in bars.
Meals more expensive than Davutlar and Kusadasi.
Utilities mire expensive than Turkey.
No cheap Gozleme or Dorrum neither.

I think this person must be living in some sort of bubble, he obviously hasn't paid any untility bills there recently (not that we have but have been told about them) or read about the knife crime etc in the newspaper. Not to mention the weather. We have been in the UK since Friday morning and can't wait to hop on that plane tomorrow to head to sunny climes. xx

Re: Buying in Fethiye....?

Took my generator in to be fixed last week, (petrol old, not used it for 3 years), and chain saw. 20 TL for new petrol, 50TL total for two repairs. Could I get this in the UK for £7? My mother just paid £65 for someone to come out and change the battery in her cooker! Cost of living is more than cost of booze and meals. Last year we spent about £8500 and we run two vehicles and this includes SGK

Re: Buying in Fethiye....?

Sun is shining bright & long here in Kalkan. It's January & I'm in shorts & T shirt.

Yes, we moan about price increases and ever-changing legislation here in Turkey, but the U.K. is a basket case, governed by a bunch of despicable self-serving pillocks - hell bent on little more than peddling hate, racism and fascism.... I'm very happy to be out of it.

Biggest problem I foresee for Brits living anywhere else in retirement during the next decade, is that demise of the £ ! and our pensions ever reducing buying power against the euro or dollar. At least here, the demise of the TL counterbalances most of the deficit.
