Fishing Licence

Finally gave up on my boycott of fishing in protest against licence cost in Turkey and went to get my licence yesterday.
My Turkish friend, with me to translate, was told if he wanted one he could have it right away for 15 TL. I, being foreign, had a different procedure and cost.

Bureaucracy as only Turkey can do it: I needed copy of passport, copy of Residence Permit, 2 photos and 150 TL. Also, it then has to go to Muğla for official approval, so I might get it next week.

If anyone wants to get one (in Fethiye) the office has moved from centrum. Down seaside road and turn right after Flamingo Restaurant (old Yakamoz). 100 metre up on the left is a government building standing on it`s own. Inside, ground floor office on left.

Re: Fishing Licence

Hi Ian, you mention that you had to take your residence permit [along with the others] does this mean only residence permit holders are allowed to fish? I do a lot of fly fishing for trout and greyling here in Wales. Seems to me that the Turkish authorities are stifling angling as a tourist money maker.' there is plenty of fish-able water around. Just look at the angling opportunities in France, Spain, Russia, Slovenia and Croatia.

Re: Fishing Licence

No, I don´t think it was necessary to have Res Permit, but because they could have it they insisted on it.
If you think about it, it is more complicated to get a fishing licence than it is to get into Turkey.
They really don´t have a clue so far as fishing tourism. Why would a tourist pay all that money for a two year licence then have to wait a week to get a silly bit of paper.

It really is a silly, expensive process.

Re: Fishing Licence

The law is clear. Any fishing, of any type, from boat or land, sea or fresh water, needs a licence.

If you are challenged your equipment can be confiscated. I have hundreds of pounds worth of gear, which I don´t want to take a chance on.

The law is here:
Koruma ve Kontrol Genel Müdürlüğü

Re: Fishing Licence

(Amendment of paragraph seven by Law No. 3288)

Turkish citizens and foreigners who will catch fish for non-commercial or sportive purposes with small scale gears in the areas where fishing is not prohibited are not obliged to get a fishing licence. The matters concerning the methods and principles of this type of fishing are arranged by a regulation.

am i reading this wrong as my husband has been fishing in our area for the last 3 years with both Turkish and European friends and he has never had a licence
