Fishing Licence info (better than YTL1500 Fine)

Hi,

After going fishing a few times (near one of the nets that burst near Bozbuk) I was informed that about a dozen people had been issued with fines ranging from YTL250 to a whopping YTL1500 for not having Licences to fish.

So I checked this forum then searched the internet and found that in 2006 the Turkish Government have introduced new regulations which in summay means - Everyone needs a licence of some sort

*Turkish Nationals - Amature Fishing Licence available for YTL 5 (Valid 2 years)

*Foreign residents - Misafir Amature Fishing Licence available for YTL 150!! Yep thats the one that most of us will need. (Valid 2 years)

*Tourists going on a Fishing trip - The Captain should have a Fishing Tourism Licence then each individual on the boat also requires a licence YTL15 per person. (Valid 3 days)

very briefly they dont do these in Didim you need to go to Aydin (Behind mcDonalds - TARIM ve KÖYİŞLERİ BAKANLIĞI office), take

*Copy of Passport
*Residency
*Copy of driving licence (he wasnt sure while he needed this but thought he'd take it anyhow!)
*A photo
*oh yes and the 150YTL

apparently I was the first MUG to have this done and so he was happy to do this process while i waited. Turks had to come back on the nearest Thursday to collect this worth the extra YTL 145 eh!

He also guarenteed that as I had paid 30times as much a Turk my fish would be 30 times bigger

here is the english regulation which seems to back this up

http://www.kkgm.gov.tr/regulation/not/2007-44.html

Please note this has been changed since mid 2006 as of Nov 2007 you do need a licence for any sort of fishing.

check this for an update

take care

Re: Fishing Licences in Turkey

Another example of Turkey shooting itself in the foot! What better way to discourage tourism than to slap extra fees onto a sport, threaten to fine and confiscate equipment and make the regulations so complicated a lawyer will be needed to decide if you can cast a line.
On first reading of the regulations it looks as if you need a separate permit for each region.
I don't imagine for a moment that local Turks will pay for these permits.

Thats some list of regulations and expensive! I think I'll forget it although I have a couple of fly rods in my apartment in Side. I have visited a couple of tackle shops in Manavgat and one of the dealers showed me his licence but could not figure out where and how to get one. [not bothering at 150 lira] Loads of locals fish the river in Manavgat and I was wondering about the huge reservior up in the hills? Difficult to get any details.

I have read recently that everyone that fishes in Turkey must posses a license, for locals they cost 5 ytl and for ex pats they cost 150 ytl and are valid for 2 years. Fines for fishing without a license have been given out between 500 ytl and 1500 ytl.

And it's very nice to have you - tight lines (with a licence).

Yes, he will need a licence unless he is fishing with an organised group - with the group leader holding the licence. I have yet to come across any Turk who has got a licence, or intends to get one.
I was reading last week about the head of some hunting organisation in Turkey, who was arrested for fishing with dynamite.

Why are foreign residents being penalized? If they get away with this, what next.

Will we be asked to pay 30 times more than a Turkish National for our car tax????

This has seriously annoyed me. We, in Uzumlu already pay 3 times more for our water than non pool owning locals.

It's crazy.
