Exclamation Breaking new ground?

After spending last evening and a couple of hours this morning, I have come to the conclusion that there is either no fish in the whole of Turkey or the Ministry for Culture & Tourism in Turkey has a blanket ban on any website to do with fishing here

A complete brick wall - I have found absolutely nothing of any use that can help in identifying fishing marks around inland Turkey, nor have I found any brands that are marketed in the bigger cities like Ankara and Istanbul.

So, it looks like we are breaking new ground here.

There must be many more people around Turkey who also share an interest and if we can recruit more members we would have more chance of getting some feedback on which lakes and rivers are worth pursuing.

So, spread the word!

Re: Breaking new ground?

I think you are right, there must be a market. I have refered before to the bits I write for Fethiye Times link -
http://www.fethiyetimes.com/cms/ind...id=11&Itemid=85

this came about because of the lack of available information. That section is very local to Fethiye. I have not found much interest in angling as a sport among Turkish friends, but there is a huge population of immigrants and holidaymakers from parts of Europe where fishing as a sport is huge business.

TLF is the only forum that I have seen with a specific section dealing with fishing.

Perhaps it is only when there is some money in it that local people will start to protect and develop fishing resources.

Re: Breaking new ground?

Does anyone know of anyone who will take a few people fishing in Istanbul area next week?

Welcome to Turkish Living Glassflats

Can be arranged - a bit more info would be helpful

You are in America? Where are you flying into?

How many in the party?

How many days?

Do you have an itinery planned and venue?

Merv!

Re: Breaking new ground?

Fethiye Area - By advertising in the local Free Paper (Land of Lights), I have established a small group of fisherfolk who share the costs of fishing trips. This is non-profit making, not a club, but more a network.
At the moment I am coordinating this.
We will arrange Fly, Coarse and Sea Fishing.
Because some of the group are only here when on holiday it is difficult to coordinate.
I hope that the way it will work, eventually, is that if someone wants a specific trip, they will use the network to see if anyone else is interested in joining in - sharing costs of transport and sharing local knowledge. I will be happy to make the contacts even if I don't go on the trip.
This weekend, for example, a group of 4 or 5 using a hired vehicle and driver for the day will go to a local river for about 30YTL each. We will drop people off along a 10 kilometre section of the river giving a choice of water types - we will then try to remember where they are so we can collect them on the way back!
If anyone is interested in joining this network, please email me through this forum.
Incidentally, I have a couple of places left for this Sunday if anyone fancies a trip to the Esen River.
If there are similar networks perhaps we can make contact to share information?
