Beach fishing

On my visit to Alanya in October and after the crowds had gone 5 to 6pm
5 men were fishing from the beach i took little notice but returned at 8-00 for a stroll along the beach and they were still there when i looked to see there catch there were 3 large fish of 1 to 2lbs and several small ones of maybe under 1/2lb.
On my way back from the Centrum at 10-30pm they were still there i did'nt look and don't know what the fish were so there are fish to catch as they come in to feed when the sun dies down. Fishing boats also go out from the West side of Alanya where the new mariner is being built. Hope this helps some-one out there regards Andy.

Andy

Thanks for sharing.

Fishing is always best as the winter months draw in. From our balcony we can see shoals of fish on the surface and the Turks "in the know" are always out there pulling in loads.

Beats me why fish is so expensive to buy here now when its in abundance.

Re: Beach fishing

I rarely eat fish in the restaurants here in Kusadasi. Personally I prefer a place that has a few restaurants located just a few km from my wifes family home - its called Eski Çine (about 40km from Aydin). The village is well known by the locals for its excellent fish restaurants and although somewhat inland, they seem to get the best catches delivered to their restaurants daily.

Getting back to topic.... During the winter months in Kusadasi, all the pleasure trip boats are used for fishing trips. Sunday is the most popular day and 3 or 4 large boats will be full with Turkish fisherman. Its a good day out and only costs 10 lira.

No booking is necessary. Boats depart at around 9:30am from the Marina - next to the small Migros.

Re: Beach fishing

Andy, buy your own fish from the Hal ( do you know where this is?)- usually a good variety available from the daily catches -by far the best fish in Alanya.
There are a couple of fish restaurants that are very popular with the Turks -but they are expensive. One is at the far end of Damlataş beach - Balık Evi, the other is by the new cinemas. They are always busy with turks so obviously they consider them good value. I have enjoyed the meal both times - picking my fish from teh tank though is something I have never liked!
When you are next here get in touch -we have a fisherman friend who when he has customers brings us his catch - we get some lovely very fresh fish..

agree with you Lynda...the Hal is super ..and i like they way they will clean the fish ..even the hamsi.
And Andy when you eat ask the waiter to bone the fish for you...they do an amazing job. worth watching them for tips.
