Ok... hands up - who deleted my post (and Starmans) from the "Mushtaqs phone" thread?
The comments while being jocular, were still marginally on topic. Or are we only allowed to be humerous inside certain sections?
And don't say it was moderation, that was censorship.
I thought things had improved about here...

Re: Deleted Posts
I did put a post on yesterday re chat.
http://www.turkishliving.com/forums...read.php?t=5642
The reason this was decided on was because there are some good post on the forum and many have been lost or buried in chat and banter. maybe we should look at this a little more leave it to stand for a week say and then it be deleted.
On the forum there is pm and chat facility, and the cafe and of course the padded room. Now who would want to know how to get their electricity connected in that room? but there are some...
So I put it to the members, should the chat and banter be left for a week, then when it appears to have lost its appeal be deleted?
All comments welcome and I promise not to delete

Re: Deleted Posts
Thats a good idea Lorraine, it will make our job a bit more difficult though But I'm happy with that. I deleted the previous post because I too had replied to Jonh but you got in before me.

Re: Deleted Posts
If we wanted to chat we could use MSN. It's a lot more efficient than the facility here.
If you want a purely informational forum then so be it... but it will lose it's attraction to many. Chat, humour and banter are all part of the everyday life of a forum, it's what gives it is character and makes it stand out from the multitude of other forums catering to the same market. It is the overriding factor why people visit a forum regularly. Information can be collated from a multitude of sources, good humour and friendliness cant.
Look around, how many online forums are there relating to the south west/west of Turkey? More than you could wave a mousemat at!
Some are friendly, others less so. And believe me, between Starman and me we've seen them all.
Ask yourself this question, why have so many original members returned recently?
There is an obvious answer, but also an underlying reason: because from day one this was a friendly environment where you could have a laugh and a joke with other members without undue interference from admin/moderators. If you wish to eradicate posts that are not strictly on topic, or those posts that in some peoples eyes trivialise a topic, then it's going to end up a fairly dry and uninviting place to visit.
I think you are over reacting and will ultimately damage what is actually not a bad place to be.
If I've misread the overall tone of this forum, then it's not for me, again.

Re: Deleted Posts
Yes, delete the banter. The nice thing about this forum, compared to others I have seen, is that it is business-like and friendly. Banter that is not related to the post just looks like two mates having a chat - and that excludes others who are not in that clique.
There are enough places within this forum for mates to go and chat without cluttering up threads where members are looking for answers to questions: use PM or email, for example. If it is two people who want to chat, why would they want to do it in public anyway?
Some threads are, by their subject matter or location (e.g. Padded Room), naturally light hearted, but information threads should keep to business.

Re: Deleted Posts
I belong to four turkish forums and this one is by far the best.
One I belong to is just like a chat room and hardly worth looking at.
This one is far more informative and we have the padded room etc. for other topics.
Don't let Turkish Living become one giant chat room.
