internet dongle

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew the best shop to get a pay as you go internet dongle so that we can use the lap top on the Spring Site.
I know its a pain whilst on holiday but I still have to do bits and pieces of work.
Does anyone know if the wireless internet is set up yet at four seasons as it wasn't there at easter.

I could go into an internet cafe I heard there is one in Illica but i'll buy a dongle if they're not too expensive and also a Turkish sim card.

Can't wait to go out to Spring on Tuesday 30 th i know we're brave as this is the due completion date but we'll take our chances.

thank you
Monday.

Re: internet dongle

I wouldnt bother - if you have a wireless adapter then just go to a cafe or bar with free wifi, its becoming more common these days

Re: internet dongle

I agree free WiFi is available in many bars, restaurants and cafe's and I have always managed to do what I need using that method.

Notwithstanding the above, O2 have a special offer on with cashback via quidco. You can get a PAYG O2 E160 USB Modem E160 for half price (£14.67) which you need to load with £15 credit(only lasts a month and does not roll over to next month). So you pay out £29:67.

The Quidco cashback is £29:67, so effectively free mobile broadband that may be enough for your needs.

Offer runs until 29th June 2009

Quidco link is Quidco - O2 cashback

If you are not already a quidco member they will retain £5 a year from your cashback as a membership fee.

Re: internet dongle

Using a UK dongle will be very costly in Turkey as you will get charged roaming rates.

Hi Madeline,

I was out at our place in the Four Seasons earlier this month and was told that the wi-fi has finally been sorted. Have to say that I have not tried it (didn't have my laptop with me), so unable to tell you about signal capacity or strength etc.

My understanding is that the company comissioned by Mecitoglu for this last year have consistently failed to deliver a workable system, so they have brought in another supplier.

They have put several small wi-fi portals around the complex, so we should all get reasonable access (assuming it has sufficient capacity and we are not all trying to downloads films etc).

You will need to get the access code etc. This is supposed to be available from Mecitoglu, but we got it easier from Mikhail - who is the private contractor brought in to run the bar and cafe at both Four Seasons & Spring (nice chap, who has a Dutch partner - Anna, also helpful).

So you should not need an internet dongle at all - assuming that you have a modern wi-fi enabled laptop. If not then just buy a wi-fi wireless dongle (about £20 in UK) rather than an internet dongle.

Hope this helps.

Have a great time in your new appartment - It's bloody hot at the mo!

Leo.

A good reminder, and WiFi will probably be the best solution for most people, it is what I use when in Alanya usually on my netbook.

Going back to the O2 offer, it is widely reported that it is delivered unlocked so should accept a local sim card.

I actually bought a PAYG 02 dongle from littlewoods online about 2 weeks ago and I believe it was a special so i gotit for less than £4.00.
I think the info came from Money Saving Expert: Consumer Revenge - Credit Cards, Shopping, Bank Charges, Cheap Flights and more forum as i also got a free 3 dongle just paid postage with info from that site. lol
Hope that helps someone

regards
Crystalclear

Re: internet dongle

Thanks everyone for your replies and i am espicially delighted with Leo's reply that the internet is now up and running at the complex.

we are soooooooooo looking forward to going out on Tues and family already out at Four Seasons tell us that our appartments are ready but lots of groundworks need doing but what the heck we'll have a ball anyway.
i bet they will have it all ready in a week as the Turks are real grafters.

thanks again
Madeline

Re: internet dongle

I bought a Turkcell dongle at Carrefour in Izmir. I paid 180 ytl for the dongle and 54 ytl for a 1 gb monthly connection. Each month I pop into a Turkcell shop pay 54 ytl for 300 kontors and away I go. No problems but obviously a 1gb connection is a bit slow.
