Red face New property owner in Gulluk-Nr Bodrum

Hi
Not even there yet! Not finished til Dec this year. Can't wait.

Can anyone advice on furniture packages. Our builder has stated 4000 for a 3 bed, very basic package. Don't really want to turn up with sleeping bag and no kettle!

Can you buy there and have delivered next day?! Or does anyone suggest going with package cos of ease?

Any suggestions would be greats. Thanks. R

Hi Splish & Splosh, have been looking at property in Gulluk a few weeks ago, and understood there were no english yet, not that I minded, thought it was a wonderful place, have found a wonderful villa that we would like to but, but have to sell our duplex in Altinkum first (ha ha) so might become your neighbours. Hope you enjoy your new home, as for furnishing there is an excellent choice in and around Bodrum, and everyone delivers, so spend a few nights in a hotel, and shop around for your furniture, and they usually deliver same or next day,

sharon

You can expect to pay that for a furniture package but you should get everything you need in that. İdas on the main road from Bodrum do a number of packages of different styles and qualities. Have a chat and tell them you are buying for yourself and would like the 20% the emlaks get in commission taken off the price. We didn't even have to ask when we called in they offered the discount.

Of course you can get everything yourselves but it depends how much you enjoy shopping

Hi folks
Its great fun doing it yourself
We furnished a 2 bed apartment last year in 3 days
1 double bed,2 single beds,2 wardrobes with mirrors, lounge suite(sofa and 2 chairs), 2 coffee tables,4 bedside cabinets,dining room table plus 4 chairs,patio furniture,2 loungers,nets and drapes fitted in all rooms,2 carpets,safe,toaster,microwave,fan,hoover,cutlery/crockery for 6,pots and pans,glasses,toaster,2 table lamps,bedding/quilts for 3 beds and dishcloths/tea towels

Total cost 2130 and we got it all from 4 shops in Fethiye.
Forget about a set package and put your signature on the place doing it yourself and its great fun with most of the stuff delivered before you get home as Harem said.
All the best

Hi splish and splosh. Welcome and hope you have a lot of fun with your new house. They are all right do it yourself 4K is very expensive. I did a 3 bed house with everything you need including hand made wooden bedroom furniture and good quality things for under 3K. Just make a list room by room. Even if you need to stay in a hotel for a couple of nights and hire a car or loads of taxis it will still be cheaper and you will have things you have chosen. If you need to use taxis you will find that many shop keepers will run you home if you buy stuff. More often than not I was taken home in the delivery van with the stuff.
Good luck.

Actually there are (just a few) Brits in Gulluk !!

It is worth comparing what you get in the package (they are not all rip offs) We furnished 2 bed apartment for 2,500 with the builders package (but customised it to our own choice), but before signing up we shopped around and found we couldn't beat it. Added bonus was that the builder takes care of everything, takes delivery etc so saves you waiting in !! We went out on a boat trip for the day and when we got back everything was set up and installed. Also if anything goes wrong with any items they take care of it also (no need for you to spend your valuable holiday time going back to Bodrum, means you can stay in Gulluk instead). So if the package is a good deal then nothing to lose. Most of the residents on our site did the same, so only down side is many of your neighbours have the same furniture !

I think that is the main problem with a package as it becomes almost Ikea style and everybody has the same stuff because the package deal relies on bulk purchase.

Kaplumba was saying she got HAND BUILT furniture for her place which is 3 bed for under 3k and that is personal to her rather than your home looking like all the rest.

We really had great fun choosing it all as it was what WE wanted and not all shoved in together. Going home in the delivery van is great fun too!

A final point is that however cheap a package seems, there must be some hefty commission going to the builder surely so what would the bits have cost if you got them yourself. I can honestly say that I wouldnt have missed it as part of the excitement of a holiday home and would have preferred it to the boat trip.
Another thing is it helps the integration into Turkey without it being too sanitised as you meet the Turkish tradesmen and say Hallo when you see them again so bonds can develop with contacts.

Re: New property owner in Gulluk-Nr Bodrum

İt's a misconception that furniture packages are all flat-packed İkea-style stuff. We looked at a few recently and the packages varied from basic cheap tat to very good quality real wood furniture.

As İ said before if you want to do it quick and hate shopping just go look at packages yourself and ask for the 20% commission to be subtracted from the price.

İ enjoy shopping around like Terry but appreciate the packages are ideal for some persons who haven't got a lot of time.
