Window Irons

Hi There,

After being burgled we are now going to have to fit window bars on all windows. I have always been reluctant, but now we've paid the price for it.

Could anyone tell me what the average cost (ish) is per window? I have had two windows done already at a cost of 150TL each-is this about right?

Cheers

Ann

Re: Window Irons

Hi Ann,
we paid 1200 lira, 4 years ago for 3 downstairs windows and 1 door with lock. That was "kindly" arranged through our builder.

Hi Ann,

My advise to you would be, don't waste your money. We lived in Dalaman for nearly 2 years without bars. We put bars on early last year and got burgled within months of doing so. They pulled the bars off a bedroom window to gain entry.

I would suggest you go for an alarm instead. We had one installed last year and it cost us around 1300tl for a wireless system. If you need any further information please ask.

Linda

Totally agree with you Linda, bars are a total waste of money as they broke the lock on the metal door to the patio doors when they broke into ours

Re: Window Irons

Hi,

The problem we have is that the burglaries around this area occur when you are in not out.

As it's a bungalow it's pretty unnerving when they are climbing in your windows in the dead of night or in your bedroom when your sitting having a cuppa at 11am. The last time it was the ensuite bathroom window-12 feet from the ground and around 18 inches square-to wake up to someone coming through your window it a bit scary.

We thought that with window irons surely we'd hear something when they were trying to remove them? The patio door ones will be re-inforced with a big chain and padlock.

I just can't sleep with the windows closed-I feel like I'm suffocating so alarms won't be any good.

Does anyone have any good ideas? We're looking at all sorts of things.

Cheers

Ann

Re: Window Irons

Might not be your cup of tea but one thing burglers hate above all else is dogs. Much cheaper than window bars too....

Re: Window Irons

Hi Rosehillgirl1

We were burgled in the UK and the police sent a Safety Prevention Officer to give us some practical advice.
Basically, place as many obsticles in the way as possible, Irons, alarm, dog, fencing, lighting and camera's.
The logic being that they will move on to someone else's house that they think is easier to break into.

Hope you can find a solution quickly.
