Damp around door frames

We have damp coming through the walls on the corners of the walls at the door frames on some of the doors...i was sure I had read a thread on how to deal with this but I've gone back 3 years and can't find it! Can anyone advise what to do about it...it shows up as orange stains where the corner has a metal mesh cover underneath the plaster but the plaster seems to be corroding, crumbling etc with the damp. We could just paint the walls but it wouldn't be solving the cause...thanks.

Re: Damp around door frames

If it's as bad as you make it sound then it sounds like the corner strip is rusting away underneath the plaster and the only truly effective way of curing the problem is to have the plaster and rust metal removed then the area re-plastered.

Until then what will continue to happen as the metal continues to rust it will swell and start to push the plaster away from the wall.

Re: Damp around door frames

If you don't find the cause of the damp and treat it, it will happen again with the new mesh.

Re: Damp around door frames

The bricks around doors and windows are cut and put in with the holes facing outward, you can see it cearly on new builds. You have to strip it back and fill in these holes or they just continue to let the water through.

Re: Damp around door frames

The problem is the buildings have no air grids or shutters. If you remember homes back in the UK that have double glazing, had shutters at the top to open. Double glazing has no air shutters in most properties in Turkey.
They are built for summer homes only. You will find the rooms you live in most lounge and bedroom (s) are the ones that suffer most with damp and mildew.
So the answer is you will have to fit air vents. Bowls of sea salt help a little but, does not stop the problem.
