Question can you get a pre pay meter for electric in Turkey?

We are considering renting our apartment out but whilst the tennants would have to pay for any water they use because it's pre pay, the electric bill is by direct debit and it could cost more than any rental fees if they run the air conditioning non stop etc -is it possible to have a pre pay electric meter installed so any tennant would also have to pay for electricity up front too? I'm sorry if I've posted this in the wrong place

Good question, sorry I do not have the answer, but you could always not let them use the aircon at least.

You could wire in a countdown timer that only allows a max of 1 hour before it has to be reset. At least it then cant be left running continuously.

Re: can you get a pre pay meter for electric in Turkey?

We take a meter reading upon arrival and departure and give 200 free units of electric and charge extra in the damage/extras deposit and say its because of the costs esp air con and have not had a problem yet. Dont know about a pre pay electric meter could be good to know and so long as tennants understand the three cost levels during the day they can work around it. Make it a part of their contract that they must pay the electric, you will just take a meter reading upon arrival having paid the charges up to date and once you receive the dd receipt they must lodge accordingly to your account. Just make sure that all those residing in the rental sign the agreement to pay etc. Let us know how you get on.

Re: can you get a pre pay meter for electric in Turkey?

This A/C is a problem . We actually let friends have our place who were not familiar with the cost of running the A/C . They racked up a massive bill & paid it no problem . BUT when we next went ,within 3 days 1 of the units gave big trouble & I had to buy a new one . Then they told me they had been going out all day and leaving 3 units going flat out all day & sometimes all night . So its not just the cost of the electric ,but the wear & tear on the units to think of as well . It was not done in a malicious way ,they just thoug so long as they paid the bill then its no problem. There are actually people on our site who have taken their units [or disabled them] out when renting .
