Damp

Hello,

I know this question will almost receive the old “how longs a piece of string” - however, fixing damp on internal walls, is this a huge cost in turkey? I see people commenting it’s difficult to find good plasterers? Has anyone had any damp work done and could give an idea of how much they paid for what size area?

Someone has mentioned also painting, once the works rectified, with a pair that prevents damp?

Re: Damp

Before you start, you should establish the source of the damp. Painting and plastering are the final stages, after the problem has been fixed, not before.

Re: Damp

Damp is an issue with many Turkish houses...

The site I live all have a common cause. These houses were built over 20yrs ago, and damp courses wern't a feature of there development...consequently we had it everywhere...

Been here now for nearly 15yrs and I believe we are getting on top it now.... My basement has been completely tanked out, relining the floor our with plastic sheet...damp coarsening all the walls....cut out the base of the wall and lining stage by stage....hard going let me tell you!! thermo insulated the walls.. Then re-plastered!!

That was the bulk of the problem....have found damp patches elsewhere...but these were related to leaks from roof and guttering...very common problem!! 1 horrible issue we had was a leaking pipe in a wall.....took forever to figure out....Now its done all is well!!

Tip...Forget any finishing work until you are 100% sure the problem is sorted....

Re: Damp

It seems to be an issue with old seals or windows or where windows have been left open and rain/water has got in. Will get someone to take a look.

Seals round windows and patio doors was our problem re-sealed with quality mastic and also get the outside of the house repainted every 3-4 years seems to have solved it

I used a good acrylic rather than a silicon type, found the surfaces didn't part as easily.

Re: Damp

Our old villa we had the problem every year, replaster and repaint.
Fortunately our new house has a full damp course and insulation in walls and roof.
So now its a thing of the past.

If anyone is interested our adjoining 5 bedroom property is up for sale, never been lived in.
