Some current prices in Turkey

I Could not find a suitable thread so I thought I would start one.
It may be useful for TLF members living in Turjey to share their experiences of buying unusual items to give others an idea of what they can expect to pay.

Last week we bought some logs to burn in winter over the next few years. We bought recently felled cherry wood, not cut ready to use, so I need to do that. 25 kurus a kilo. My 17.5 tonnes cost about 4300TL loaded, delivered (30km) and unloaded. He also threw in 2 kilos of green beans!

Seems a bit steep for a sofa though.

Are they dry and cut to size for that price?

Re: Some current prices

My wood was delivered at the end of August - early I know but my supplier is very well known for quality and runs out fast. I've had almond wood, cut in 2017 so very dry, and cut to size for my log burner. It was 600TL a tractor load, so just 100TL more than last year. I had 2 loads, and the charge for bringing it down my steps from the road - a long, difficult way down - and stacking it was 150TL. A bargain in my opinion, and I'm well pleased! And before anyone asks - I've no idea how much a tractor holds, but it's a lot!!! 2 loads is more than enough, even if we have a very cold winter!

Re: Some current prices

To my mind almond wood is the best, when we put our fences up in 2005 we had to take down a lot of almond trees and we finished the logs a few years ago, burned really well. Sounds like you got a reasonable deal.

Re: Some current prices

We have just had 4 tons of logs delivered, cut to size for our log burner, and the price was 2,600 TL delivered and unloaded. I am 90% sure the wood is almond, it is very dense, dry, and burns well. When stacked the volume is 184 cubic feet (5.2 cubic metres). We had the same amount last year, similar quality, but 500 TL per ton.
This guy uses a weighbridge, and we do notice good consistency in the quantity when it is stacked. With previous suppliers a nominal 1 ton has given a stacked volume anywhere between 33 and 68 cubic feet.
This should be an interesting thread, IbrahimAbi!

Re: Some current prices

There is a unit measure for wood, A Cord, I have no idea what one is though.

Re: Some current prices

A cord is 128 cubic feet of closely stacked wood.
But if you want to really confuse someone, order your wood by the "Hoppus foot"! (Still in use in parts of rural England)
