Re: Gazipaşa Airport

İ think its very sad..people in the area have had their hopes dashed again and again...some have opened businesses and lost money in the forlorn expectation of this place getting off the ground (intended pun)

i cant see it happening until they have not only a bigger runway but also service roads to deal with the increased traffic...the roads around Gazipaşa both east and west have been improved as they are always busy with buses and lorries using this route to Mersin Adana and Hatay s well as other eastern parts...if the airport opened these road would become very congested and the predicted travelling times from the airport to Alanya wouldn't be realised.....the delays could make the journey almost as long as the present time from Antalya.

I saw plans of the airport when i was over in Oct, they looked very impressive.

The runway is going over the main road so the main traffic will be running under it. But alot of work has still to take place.

I know this has been in the pipeline for ages but i don't raise my hopes for the next couple of years especially for international flights.

Re: Gazipaşa Airport

When will Gazipasa airport open?

Not until it has a license from the ICAO... Read here

Gazipasa-Alanya Airport - Airport Technology

No commercial passenger jet (100+ seats) has ever landed at Gazipasa and none will until the next round of runway extensions etc. are finished.

When will that be? Who knows?

The local government and newspapers have always reported optimistic news but nothing happens! When the planned expansion is complete the first REAL sign of Gazipasa becoming operational will be commencement of scheduled domestic flights. Say a weekly service to Istanbul or Ankara by Turkish airlines. This is a prerequisite for International (tourist) flights. The Turkish authorities can sanction domestic flights. The ICAO expects a background of successful domestic operations before licesnsing international flights.

My guess? Commercial operation is 3 to 5 years away. Traffic levels at Antalya are below those predicted, so there is no urgency to get Gazipasa running. Don't make short term investment decisions based on the imminent opening of Gazipasa airport. The richer Turkish people we know are buying Tarla in the area - but for their children...

Probably stand at the gate and drag passing tourists in with promises of good deals and great service.

Re: Gazipaşa Airport

Hi, I visited Gazipasa airport this month Dec 2009 and had a 25 minute interview with an official from TAV. He advised me that a major German carrier is scheduled to make an inaugural flight in May 2010 followed by regular operations in July 2010. He is optimistic that other european operators may follow in the Autumn or in Spring 2011. Regarding the new highway he expects this to be completed by Mid 2010. The extension of the runway is not a big deal and will not take very long according to this official. 30 million euros have been invested and there is no way that the project will be left to die he told me.

Hope this information helps.

PS Both Ryanair & Easyjet were mentioned at the interview although nothing has been finalised as far as I am aware.

Squawk

Welcome to the forum! Your first post appears to be PR for TAV. Do you work for them or are you pretending to be a journalist?

There will be NO international flights into Gazipasa airport until it is licensed by the International Civil Aviation Organisation. No license has been granted. Home page is here -

ICAO | International Civil Aviation Organization

ICAO has said it will reinspect the runway AFTER the current extension is complete. It is also normal for an airport to have established domestic commercial services before applying for an international license. No scheduled commercial airline service has EVER operated out of Gazipasa.

I will quote from Wikipedia -

Antalya GazipaŇüa Airport - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"There is much cynicism locally that the latest timing of the opening had more to do with the stagnant local property market than the actual opening, which is now delayed indefinitely. The reason why approval was never granted was because the International Aviation Authority has refused the airport a license, citing the danger posed by the large mountain at the end of the runway.

When Gazipasa airport finally gets an ICAO license it will be no secret. It will be headline news on Zaman, Hurriyet etc.

Re: Gazipaşa Airport

Do you seriously believe that companies like TAV a well respected international company have invested millions of euros in an organisation that cannot deliver because of safety issues ?

Let us see what happens in 2010 /2011 before ridiculing comments made by senior airport officials. I also have much more interesting information relating to the airport and other matters but I have no intention of revealing the rest when people like you are so keen to denigrate others comments.
