CD/RW Disc problem

I have 2 CD/RW discs with files on that won't load on the computer. When I put them in the drive nothing happens. I have carefully cleaned them, but still no joy. Anyone know what I can do, one I am not too bothered about, but the other one has loads of photos on. Diane

Re: CD/RW Disc problem

Have you tried another computer just to establish it is the discs and not your computer that is at fault?

Re: CD/RW Disc problem

I was told a while back best way to clean up disks even scratched ones is with a lint free cloth and car polish (none abrasive) and you clean from outer to outer going across centre not around and around.
This has always worked for me if its the disk at fault. but it could be the laser or cd player not working correctly so try another player if you can 1st.

Re: CD/RW Disc problem

When you use Explorer, can you see the files on your CD?

Does the CD stop after a short interval, or does it stay on? You should see a light on your CD player indicating whether it's busy or not.

Try cleaning the lens of your disc drive with a damp cotton bud then try your discs again.

Re: CD/RW Disc problem

I did clean the disc with a lint free cloth. Won't be able to try it on another computer until next week. Did wonder today, about the tray might need cleaning, will give that a go.

Tommie how do I use explorer to see what's on the disc?

Literally nothing happens when I insert the disc into the drive, I have gone into my computer and clicked on the ram drive, but nothing shows at all. Diane

Re: CD/RW Disc problem

I am using Windows 7 so I use the Windows Explorer.

I actually have the Windows Explorer on my task bar, together with Internet Explorer.

If you can't find the Windows Explorer, open Internet Explorer and type in C: (or your appropriate drive letter) and windows explorer will then open.

Can't recall where it is on XP or Vista, but should be very easy to find.

Hit F1, for Help.

It sounds like you are a real novice, so you should have a basic tutorial somewhere.

PM me if you wish.

For XP or Vista click "Start" then "Computer", left click on the appropriate drive (CD/DVD Drive D in most cases) then click "open" or in some cases "explore"

Re: CD/RW Disc problem

Holding tight on things at the moment, will be able to check my discs on my Brother's computer tomorrow night. But unfortunately it is looking like the disc drive has gone down the pan, tried several bought games (no probs before) discs this morning, and nothing.
