Lexmark printer on offer

I have a Lexmark S305 wireless printer that I brought with me from the UK a few months ago. It wasn't new and it has stopped working with a "printhead not supported" error. I have tried everything suggested to get it working, short of getting a new printhead which is too expensive to bother with. Plus the fact that I can't find the cartridges here...
So, I've given up. Before I throw it away, does anyone want it for parts or to play with? We are in Gumbet.

Re: Lexmark printer on offer

Sorry if stupid question and you have already done so, but presumed you emailed or went on Lexmark site? I had problems with Lexmark and new Vista(AAAAGGGGGHHH) laptop. but they are super printers.

Re: Lexmark printer on offer

Yep, done everything recommended, suggested, etc. on Lexmark site, Lexmark support, other forums and whatever I could find. Even went down to a local shop that sells ink cartridges and asked. Seems that the few months it was in storage must have dried the printhead out, and despite cleaning, soaking, swearing and spitting on it, it refuses to work. New printheads are quite expensive, but also the fact that I can't find the cartridges here (I've used most of my stock trying to get it to work), means that it's not really practical - probably cheaper to buy a new one here that it's easy to find cartridges for.

If anyone wants it, let me know before I find somewhere to dump it (not on the side of the road as seems to be the practice here!)

Re: Lexmark printer on offer

One of the main problems with Lexmark and possibly the reason you can't find replacement cartridges is because they are far to expensive especially compared to most other brands.

Unfortunately this is one of the problems when buying Lexmark, they look good they print good and they are just about the cheapest you can buy on the market, from there onwards they do nothing but cost you money.

Also as a lot of people are aware of, printer manufacturers do not make very much profit on the actual printers, the bulk of the profit is derived from the consumables such as ink and print heads.

Another thing to look out for if and when buying a printer is the cartridge capacity, these can vary drastically with Epson and Hewlet Packard in general having not only the biggest cartridges but also the cheapest, although I will admit I am bias towards Epson printers and have only ever used genuine cartridges one which was the "starter cartridges" that originally came with the printer.

These "starter cartridges" are also worthy of a mention because although they are still a full size cartridge they usually only contain about 30% ink, which obviously means you initially run out fairly quickly and have to buy replacements cartridges fairly soon, which is then that most people just go out and buy the same brand as the printer.

However as for the original problem, you could try using "Print/Head" cleaner, although you may need to leave the head soaking overnight, and if it's one you can't or do not want to remove, simply push some tissue between the head and the roller then soak with the flush agent.
But as it's a Lexmark, eventually it could cost more than the price of a new printer for the cost of the head flush and then new cartridge/s.
