Help- How to recover deleted photos

I want to know if there is any way to recover deleted photos?
Unfortunately these were not backed up as the device I had them on failed suddenly and had to be sent away.

Photos were on 2 locations:-

1) -They were on my mobile phone (an android handset) that acquired water damage in January and would not switch on so was sent for repair. When it came back the whole phone with almost 32GB of photos was empty. The phone did not have a memory card slot so all these were sadly only on phone internal memory.

I understand there are programs you can buy? that may recover some of the photos but each time the phones memory is used again it is rewriting over old data. Right now my phone has already used up almost 11GB, so I may have lost the relevant photos, it may have been re written.

-

2)- Secondly another place these photos were uploaded was on Facebook: I did put these on Facebook once briefly and later deleted them. No one shared the photos and it was on limited privacy setting.
I know Facebook stores the data, messages, photos, activities, likes etc and I know they have a method to recover deleted photos i,e they are not fully deleted, but how can the public member get these back?

-
These photos are precious as sadly it has come to light as someone in these photos are fighting to stay alive and I may be the only one that took the latest photos with them in it a few months ago.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Help- How to recover deleted photos

If the phone had water damage, I think they probably changed the motherboard (with new onboard memory) so your returned phone is not probably what you sent for repair, the recovery procedures will not work.

It might be worth contacting Facebook to see if the data could be recovered, I doubt if they actually delete anything.

Although it switched off as result of being in contact with water it was in a very protective case so don't think it actually got water damage and underwent a factory reset which I could have done at home myself except it wouldn't switch on (power up, it kept switching on/off and eventually drained the battery -the battery in this android was integral i.e not removable or else I could have recovered phone at home like I have done before with other phones that have removable batteries) I was impatient sent it back within 24 hours of it happening.

Re: Facebook. I have been through my activity 'trail' and seen the date I deleted the photos.

I have also requested a copy of my data from 'download your data' setting on FB -it takes time so so far have not received it. It may turn up with all photos minus the ones I deleted?

I have also sent a message to Facebook itself-but not sure which is best channel that will give a response. As I know they store data and even deactivated/deleted Facebook profiles, so nothing is actually ever deleted from Facebook. But how to get it back?!

The article states:
Note: this process requires root privileges on your phone.

Re: Help- How to recover deleted photos

ME, yes, thanks. I know FaceBook in particular is tricky, and some of those blog articles talk about Users deleting things from timelines, which simply hides them from view on a timeline, not actually deletes them.

There is a record in my 'activity' of the date I deleted the photos, I can see the photos I left and there are blank boxes remaining showing those I deleted.
The photos when they were briefly on Facebook also had restricted access privacy settings so were not visible to all. There were no people tagged either, so the photo was more restricted in viewability. Definitely nobody shared the photos on their timelines.

I already requested a Copy of 'Download your Data' last night the download file seems not complete yet. Facebook message last night said this takes time and I would receive an email when it's complete.

Thanks I'm going to have a go tonight, as never thought how precious these photos would be now the person in photo is fighting to stay alive, never imagined that would be the last time we may possibly meet.

Hoping of course for recovery of patient first, prognosis not good unfortunately 5%, if not, then at least memories of them. Thank you all.

Re: Help- How to recover deleted photos

Facebook would have optimised the photos when you uploaded them so if they are recoverable from there the file size will be smaller than the originals so therefore the quality will not be good enough for print but anything is better than what you have now.

You have continued to use the phone and write data to it so even if it still has the original hard drive you have probably wiped out most of them.

I have recovered data for many people over the years. You want a program called PhotoRec which is free PhotoRec - Digital Picture and File Recovery it's not just for recovering photos but data in general. Install that on a computer, connect the phone, scan the phones hard drive with PhotoRec and recover what you can to the PC.

Data (photos etc) can be recovered even if the drive has been formatted but if new data is written to the drive the old data becomes fragmented and chunks of it gone forever. Data recovery is a specialised field and can cost a lot.
