Missing Keys?

My laptop has suddenly lost several keys and now substitutes alternatives to the ones that I press.

I can no longer log in using the @ key this has disappeared completely to be replaced by " when I press @. Several capitals have gone completely along with exclamation mark and question mark etc. Any suggestions before I bin it and go to the expense of a new Laptop please ?

Re: Missing Keys?

New keyboard, i just replaced a sony vaio keyboard for about 11 for similar reasons, you can get the how to's on you tube and the keyboards are plentiful on ebay, you need your exact model number though

Re: Missing Keys?

It sounds like something has changed your keyboard settings.
Click start then go into control panel;
Click on "clock, language and region"
Click on "change keyboard and other input methods"
Click "change keyboards"
Make sure it is set to English (United Kingdom) not United States
Click OK and apply

Should do the trick

Yes it sounds as if your keyboard has reverted to a American US keyboard layout.

Re: Missing Keys?

You can connect a USB keyboard to check whether the problem is with the laptop keyboard, or system settings. If the laptop keyboard is faulty, you then have a choice whether to replace, or just continue use the USB keyboard.
