Is this right?
Not enough information. Need to know the operating system of the mobile for one thing.

How can she have the same phone number on two different mobiles at the same time?

Re: Mobile 'Phone

Well, it is a long story. Her father is suffering from dementia and kept answering her mobile. So her aunt bought her a new one apparently with the same number she says, and she took the SIM card out of the one her father kept answering. She kept the new one separate. So her "father's" one (the old one) now would not work. It is her father's one she now wants to sell.

Since getting the new mobile, she has used this as one uses mobiles. We took the SIM card out of the old one to try the factory reset, but this will not work without the SIM card.

So, we are back to the original dilemma. If we put the SIM card back into the old one in order to select factory reset, she is being told that she will wipe the mobile's memory, the information stored on the SIM card and also that stored on her new mobile's SIM card, because the numbers are the same.

I still cannot see that if the new SIM card is in another switched off new mobile (or with the SIM removed) it can be affected by anything done in the old mobile.

I am not sure now, but I think the mobiles are on Vodaphone. Certainly the old mobile is, because it has the logo on the SIM card. My neighbour says that it is the guy in the Vodaphone shop who told her she would wipe both mobiles.

What a to do eh?

Re: Mobile 'Phone

You can buy what they call a sim card reader [I have one ] They are not expensive . You can then put the sim card into the reader and it will hold all the info once it has copied contacts . Then even if for some reason the sim is wiped in a re set ,you can put the sim back in the card reader and it will transfer all the info back on the sim .I think Amazon sell them .

Re: Mobile 'Phone

I suppose this works like computers. Whatever changes I put into my laptop or big computer, next time the other is switched on, the changes are there. So if I delete something on the laptop, when I go to the big computer and update, it deletes whatever it was. So it is making a bit of sense now.

I will tell my neighbour about the reader.

Read my earlier post. This is only true if your neighbour has synchronisation turned on. She can backup her contacts whether they are on her SIM card or on her SD card, then copy them to her computer either using a USB cable, by email, Bluetooth, whatever. Then IF she does delete her SIM card (probably not going to happen) if she does a factory reset she still has her contacts.

Good advice . I use Bluetooth { as said earlier ] To transfer contacts between mobiles . I bought the sim saver a long time ago when you did not as a rule get Bluetooth on most mobiles . I no longer use the sim saver device ,its just gathering dust in a drawer indoors . But You can still buy them if that's the way you want to go in order to save contacts on a sim .Obviously the method above is another way to do it . { if she has a Computer ]

Ah - therein lies the problem! She doesn't have a computer.

I guessed as much. Looks like a sim saver is the best bet.Contrary to general belief ,not every one has a Puter LOL.
