Mp3 music

Looking to put all our cds into Mp3 format, could do it with iTunes but find iTunes makes a mess of the ripping so that's 's non starter, can't stand it any way. Used Nero and roxio in the past but the versions I have don't work with W10 not a great fan of media player ripping either so looking for advice on a simple download for a simple fellow, any recommendations ?

Re: Mp3 music

For years i used the fabulous Musicmatch , it was a great bit of kit , quick , simple and free , Yahoo bought it and completely sodded it up.

Legacy versions are available

Download MusicMatch Jukebox 10.00.4033 for Windows - OldVersion.com

I currently use Media monkey , but , imho nothing is as good as Musicmatch Jukebox was.

to get MMJ to continue to work you need to install a small download called 'MUltipleIE for IE6

Aother program I have used in the past was 'cdex_151 (1.5MB)

Cdex is a is utility which can extract Digital Audio (DA)
tracks from an Audio CD into files on the hard disk. The
extracted audio tracks can be stored as WAV or MP3 (MPEG-1
Audio Layer-3) files. CDex is using the Adaptec's ASPI library
Manager to communicate with the CD-ROM device, So make sure
that you have installed the proper ASPI drivers (see also the
HELP file and the FAQ page!)

The latest version of CDex can be downloaded from

http://cdexos.sourceforge.net or
DHS Support

edit
Note:

MMJB Versions 7 - 8 will not install with IE 7
MMJB Version 10 will install ok.

So make sure if you are going to be using IE v7 to install "Multiple-ie-setup" before upgrading from IE6.
"Even then the patch needs to be installed as it otherwise it will stop working"

Re: Mp3 music

I struggled to download any of the suggestions so fell back onto windows media using windows 10, most of the CDs are being ripped without problem but the odd one won't, maybe its the codecs supplied with WM, anyone know of any safe codec download sites ?

Up until a couple of years ago, I used to use Audiograbber. It did what I think you need. You can adjust the file size (quality) up to 320Kbs

Personally speaking, I find MP3 rather compressed when listening via a stereo system, but fine when listening via headphones. Download here:

Audiograbber, free CD ripper, mp3 encoder and audio recorder for Windows

Hope this helps.

Re: Mp3 music

I don't think the problem will be with the Codek

more than likelikely just a copyrite protection on the disc

Thanks DA it doesn't download onto my W 10 PCs, as Old Fogy says its probably copyright protection, I have a PC up in my workshop that has a CD ripper that gets around that but its cold up there and the program hasn't been supported for about a year so may not work anyway.

Re: Mp3 music

From memory, to get windows media player to rip to mp3 you need to install LAME. It's the source code for a fully LGPL'd MP3 encoder.
Can be downloaded at lame.sourceforge. net (without the space before the '.net'.

O.K, you could try this:

FreeRIP: CD to MP3 Converter, Audio Converter, Converter MP3, Convert MP3 to WAV, FLAC to MP3

Which I beleive will get around copy protection. It also claims to convert to lossless files such as FLAC, which are great for better sound quality playback.

Cliffb will become famous soon enough
Re: Mp3 music

If storage size is not an issue then you will get better quality ripping them to a .wav format which will equal the original CD spec (44.1 sampling & 16bit)
