Autotune

Being an ex Muso, I get really annoyed at some of today's artists using autotune
BUT after speaking with my old mate Ruprect, who worked with all the old stars, it seems this has been going on for years, here are just a few examples of songs before they were remixed using autotune , (best with headphones on)

That post of mine above was not meant to offend anyone , it's just a bit of fun..............like Les Dawson playing the piano badly when he could actually play very well
Paul McCartney , like a lot of other musicians ( me included) could not read music........along with Jimi Hendrix and quite a few dozen others, but we do have the musical ear and can tell when a chord/ note is right or wrong I fortunately do also have perfect pitch and can sometimes tell which key a song or note is in

Re: Autotune

TBH I had to look it up.it's a treble booster favoured by Brian May

This is what I ended up using , It has lots of different effects , you can combine up to 5 at a time and create a sound , then edit it, add noise reduction and store it , the "Patch" as it is called can then be accessed by 4 buttons and another 2 , meaning you can create and have preset 40 different sounds .there is also a volume pedal on the right , so you set your guitar volume on full and use that while you are playing to say, bring the volume up in a solo .the other pedal can be assigned differently for each patch ..ie, bring in more distortion/echo/alter the pitch , harmonise etc
I played about with it , I used to plonk it on my bed when practising , so as to be able to get the sound I was after easily and tweak it ...............I can get a Hank Marvin sound by pressing 1 button and next door have a Brian May sound , complete with 2 delays and a stereo ping pong effect
I am told by various musos on a guitar form I am on that it is old fashioned and not very good, but it works for me

Funny old world Ted , I can do the dots no probs , good ear for pitch , teach said I had a light touch , just had no technique and could not develop it.

Saw a tv prog on the beeb the other night re Sgt Peppers , no doubt I completely underestimated Paul's musical prowess , but still wonder as to how much Mr Martin's magic enhanced and influenced their work as a whole.

Hendrix did not need music imho ,hus hard driving rhythm and a wailing axe led bands for generations.

As for vocoding , those genius guys at abba wrote in the most amazing keys , then bent the voices to enable them to work.

More black keys than Errol Garner

Re: Autotune

There is a young girl on facebook who is an amazing player, really fast from the age of 14+
The only problem is, she has no feeling in her playing , she plays like she has read the sheet music for the song
If you want complicated , find it if you can "Dizzy miss Lizzy" by the Beatles sheet music, remember sheet music was invented way long before the advent of electric guitar and with sustain nowadays you can hold a note for ages
The sheet music looks like a flock of sparrows has run through ink and pranced all over it .........yet to listen and play by ear is purely listening just how much each note is bent upwards (a total of 7 notes )

Re: Autotune

can't believe these videos are true Celine Dion can't sing that bad, otherwise you can take any random person, use auto tune and you are fabulous. and as for Beach Boys looks like they were just playing for the camera, recording a video and pretending they are singing. Otherwise it's just unbelievable for me

I thought he played left handed Bass ?
I can tune a guitar by ear ,but it won't be in tune like if I was using a electronic tuner. On my acoustic I have a built in tuner makes life easy. But of course if you want to be all in tune in a group ,then elec tuner is quickest .

Re: Autotune

Konopess.........the videos are fake, they take the original video, wipe the sound and dub in all the instruments and voices , not that hard to do if you have sampling equipment
Evo.he does indeed play left handed bass as well as guitar piano and drums
John Lennon was asked once if he thought Ringo was the best drummer in the world, he replied "Hell he isn't even the best drummer in the Beatles"
you can get a device now which fits on the back of a guitar's headstock and will tune it automatically and there is a guitar bridge the evertune which through a system of springs keeps each string perfectly in tune
