VPN Block Planned

I have read that Turkey is planning to block use of VPNs. I canīt copy the article from Fethiye Times, and the original source is blocked (surprise). But while hunting, I did find a site that monitors censorship in Turkey in Real Time:

https://turkeyblocks.org/about/

Fethiye Times News ? Week Ending 31 March 2018 - Fethiye Times

Has anyone further info on the VPN ban?

Re: VPN Block Planned

I'm wondering if it ties up with a new proposed draft law I was reading about.

When I was talking about it with some friends they said it wouldn't be a problem just use a VPN.

So it would appear that blocking VPN's would be the next logical step.

....every Turkish media service provider with Internet media services operating from outside Turkey will be subject to licensing. Every foreign media service provider with a Turkish service - such as the BBC, Voice of America and DW (Deutsche Welle) - will be subject to this new provision. Every foreign media service provider with “commercial communications broadcasting” addressed to audiences in Turkey - even if the broadcast language is not Turkish - including the likes of Netflix and CNN International, could be subject to licensing.

- The licensing model is also likely to cover video sharing platforms such as YouTube and Vimeo, as article 29/A (1) and (4) of the law covers presentation of on demand media services exclusively via the Internet. Although it could be argued that YouTube and Vimeo are not “video on demand platform providers,” the definition of an “on demand media service” in Law No. 6112 includes a catalogue of programs selected by users. Any YouTube channel could end up being considered within this context.

Re: VPN Block Planned

I asked my VPN provider what they know about it. Reply this morning:

"Currently, our service works in Turkey and most of our customers are based in your area. Be rest assured that we have support engineers who are working round the clock to provide alternate options in case we experience VPN blocking in Turkey.

When connected to our VPN, we encrypt your Internet data using highly secure encryption protocols which means your data is undecipherable to prying eyes while in transit. Even your ISP cannot detect that you are using ExpressVPN since we use stealth ports to mask your data."
