Win 10 anti virus

I recently bought a new laptop. It had on ıt a months free McAfee and now that the month has expired ı'm getting messages saying the laptop is unprotected. I was under the impression that Windows 10 had its own integral security, am I mistaken?

Re: Win 10 anti virus

Go to Settings ( the little cog wheel in Start section), Windows Security, Open Windows Security, and turn the security and virus protection on. Also, make sure you allow updates to make sure your computer stay ahead of threats.

Re: Win 10 anti virus

Apparently it comes with windows defender which is not really enough protection
I got given a laptop by a friend of ours, she had messed it up , so our daughter brought it over and I had windows 10 put on it (which I hasten to add is crap IMHO)
Anyway put Malwarebytes and C Cleaner on it and scanned with both and it is at least virus free now I am using it purely as a backup

Re: Win 10 anti virus

The windows 10 security defender is fine, used it for years without issue, I use malware bites on a couple of machines, I removed it off an older one as it appeared to slow it down, I saw improvement but couldn't guarantee that was the solution, on my more modern machines it makes no noticeable difference, there are paid for AVs that edge defender according to the various tech sites but are they worth paying for?

Re: Win 10 anti virus

I used to install the free versions of either AVG, Avast or ComodoAV.

Now I just use Windows Defender and never had an issue with it.

Re: Win 10 anti virus

Like tenpin and others, I used to use AVG or Avast, but Defender started getting good reviews, and since Windows 10 came out I have used it on all PCs with no problems.
