Re: what did you have tonight

Love you for that Hills... our nearest Aldi is a 10 mile drive , so we have never gone there.

Cold Turkey , for the money it was a disappointing bird , small and the stuffing as said was weirdly flavoured.

Mashed spuds and petit pois , they never look small to me.

Re: what did you have tonight

So linsey was at her works team meeting luncheon yesterday, very rushed as colleagues had to get back to the airport to get home, she says it was ok but a bit lacking in veggies and not great gravy, she was driving so no wine.tough !
My instruction was to lift out a hot pot from the freezer, I forgot but linsey has worked out how the auto defrost works on the microwave, I haven't so that's what she did for me, a sort of double ding. I had it with a Branston ketchup jus and some aldi bread as it was more gravy than meat and potatoes, I had portioned it so my fault. She had home made pea and ham shank soup, wish I'd had the same now.
No wine for me in sympathy.

Re: what did you have tonight

Bought a roast in the bag chicken from our visit to Aldi. Very good indeed and only 3.09 !! Plenty of juices left in the tin foil try that it came in, so made some good gravy. Enough chicken and gravy left for tonight. He had his usual tray of roast vegetables and I had cabbage, carrots, courgettes and Brussels. All good !

Re: what did you have tonight

I think Aldi chickens are the best quality and value for money, they dont have that funny taste some low-priced chickens have ....
Steak and kidney from the big M made with shin beef .... delicious with red wine, mustard and bay leaf in the gravy ... mash, brussels sprouts, carrots

Re: what did you have tonight

Pub lunch yesterday , Jackie had butter baked salmon , very nice , i had a beefburger with a pork sausage burger , bacon and brie ? Thin undercooked chips.

Jackie had the choux bun with caramel filling and cream.

I had the apple / mincemeat crumble sundae with berry compote , vanilla ice cream.

Whomsoever does the menu for the Flaming Grill group is clearly on serious street level peddled drugs , but then it probably is appealing to most of their customers.

Pint of Spaten lager. New one on me.

The whole place " The surrey Pub " was tacky and had not encountered a wiping over in many a moon imho.

Sticky fingers , bang on

Re: what did you have tonight

To be fair, our local Flaming Grill pub is quite good - very good value for money, I don't expect gourmet when I am getting two meals for 8.99 .... but last time I was there I enjoyed the lasagne and everyone else in the party was very satisfied too .... cheap and cheerful I would say. They do a good rump steak for 5.99 .... How clean it is and so on must depend on the individual venue ....
If I want something more refined I go to Marco Pierre White, obviously excellent, but different price bracket!

Re: what did you have tonight

We paid 20 for the two course meal , a starter and a pudding each , so a tenner a head. The pint of lager was 4.08.

Not bad pricing , but not much cop.

I suppose it depends on the particular venue ...

Re: what did you have tonight

Simple one pot slow cooked steak and kidney casserole with veggies from the chiller that needed using up, served with a low fat creamy mash, and I need low fat. No dessert just having a few pistachios and beers whilst being bored by United.
